Ticket prices, scrapping concessions, ID checks, prioritisation of income above all else to the point of fleecing fans and hiding behind PSR as a defence when it's frankly just a load of shit. E-tickets, inability to transfer season tickets for one off matches in some cases (Forest & Brighton I know don't allow it). It's getting worse and worse and will continue to unless fans truly put a foot down about it. Unfortunately I don't think ours will; seen it aplenty on social media and on here. Going into bat for ticket price rises, schemes and a load of 'if you won't pay it I will'. Rank. Plus, it's not as good as it used to be is it?. Whether its being spoilt or just miserable, I haven't particularly enjoyed this season much at all. Even some of the games we've won and/or picking up points in like we were early season I didn't enjoy watching overall. You forgot the most visible one... gbandit
It’s just modern life isn’t it, so many things are shitter and more disconnected. We’re way less present and in the moment than we were in the past because of so many distractions. Everything’s more watered down and sanitised. Not saying I want hooliganism but life is just so uniform across the board

They covered the cost of tickets affecting young people, the increase in tourism, etc. Currently, excluding the COVID season, this season has had the lowest percentage of home wins. Also home goals are trending down and away goals are trending up. Nice to add a bit of balance that it's not just us. What's the podcast out of interest? About to get on a flight and could do with some stuff to listen to.

Sad times could understand if we’d been like City won trophies and been overrun with tourists, not sure that is the case but we’ve lost our passion and identity completely. I didn't go on Wednesday but on the way back from Man City 2 weeks ago my gut instinct was along these lines. Honestly felt out of place and not only didn't enjoy it but felt like I didn't "belong." Still going like but genuinely not looking forward to it one bit. Sad really. Edited February 28 by Wallsendmag

It's billed as an FPL podcast, but the main chaps (James) analysis of games and wider issues in football is really good, they often have dedicated shows to the latter. Not a huge fan of his co-podcaster (Suj), but it's still worth a listen.

The lads in front of us kept turning round in bewilderment when we were starting songs off. Not a peep out of them for 90 mins. As soon as the team came over at full time they came alive and it was all scarf waving and "who's that team we call United" Bizarre. sound like they might write for True Faith

Probably not Have they been replaced by people who are just as vocal ? Sounds like they probably haven't it mebbes wasn’t fair (however life isn’t fair and networking is a great skill that helps you in many other areas of life) but they’ve also been replaced by some who haven’t done the hard yards and dare I say it wi t be there when we’re shit again by which time we will have lost them. im still hopeful that we will see people give it a go (like v Arsenal in semi or PSG) and that given there’s likely to be no ID checks done of the lads who don’t / can’t go away anymore will get tickets. I know a few who fall into this category older LB lads who didn’t go in 2023 but are going to this.

bobbydazzla
The thing is about long term attendance is that inevitably, the atmosphere suffers. You constantly have to find new and erotic ways of spicing things up in the stadium. Someone said in another thread about having an ST but not having the same level of enthusiasm for games as in the past. They were just being honest. And I suspect that’s a wider issue. Doesn’t matter if they’re a member or an ST, but people go out of habit or fear of missing out, rather than being excited to be there and using that excitement to fuel the atmosphere. Got no idea how that changes though. Would a spanking new stadium possibly get people excited again ? Short term could it be reconfiguring seating to put like minded people together ? At a very basic level mixing up the pre-match routine so it’s not the same every time ? Felt like DJ Onedek did a good job of this for the semi *Be warned, suggesting pyro will mean ructions* Edited March 1 by bobbydazzla

Where the girls are so pretty, I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone, As she wheels her wheel barrow from Walker to Jarrow, singing (clap) da da da da da da da da da Geordies / or Magpies,(repeated a few times). I love that. It just needs concerted effort to try something new (old). I tried: Give me an N (N, N), Give me an E (E, E) etc at Arsenal. A few older lads joined in but it didn’t really catch on. Much easier to start stuff off like this if you’re doing it on a bus load of likeminded lads and you can take it into a pub and keep doing it over and over again until it catches on. But as discussed, hard to do this when you don’t have the same demographic at away games in particular. If memory serves, it tends to be away days that new chants are picked up on and then taken back for home games. Edited March 1 by TheGuv
NUFC91
The popularity of attending football games has changed the mach going fan more than you realise until you look back at certain away days. I remember Barnsley away in championship in 09/10 season, the away end seemed to be 7500 x 18-30 year olds and let's be honest a trip to Barnsley isn't as glamorous as Anfield. As an 18/19 at the time that season definitely peaked for me as best years following Newcastle, and let's be honest if those who propped up the support that year were at wembley be far better than what I expect it will be in a few weeks time. Earp
Probably covered already but the season when we lost 4-2 at Derby (can’t remember the year) and down to 9 men was superb with that match standing out for completely defiant support. Other stand out game was Spurs away in the cup in 1987. Brian Moore mentions the away support on the highlights. It could have been a Hilsborough mind - far too many in the paddocks.
