Which fortunately I’ve now made a lot of progress to address At the end of the day, it’s just a game of football. We’ll win or lose and life will go on And in the bigger picture at least we’re playing in cup finals and the club has ambition again, this is a world away from the doom of the Ashley era Is there a NUFC fan out there that isnt a catastrophic thinker? Its got nowt to do with "not coping" though. Like I say, I've just had enough of watching cup final defeats. And all of the signs right now suggest that another one is coming. Maybe things will look different when the game comes around though, depending on injuries and how we play at West Ham. Football doesn't bother me that much these days. Like others have mentioned on here, I'm rapidly losing interest in the game in general. I think those who grew up in the 70s/80s watching the game are the most disaffected because the game is almost unrecognisable to that which we grew up with. I didnt watch the Brighton game either btw. Not because I felt pessimistic about the outcome, more just apathy about it. That's why I wasn't that surprised about the dreadful atmosphere. J7
I have to admit, nearly all enthusiasm for the cup final has left me. Similarly, it’s the memories of the cup final no shows of the past and our tepid recent displays. The mounting injuries and the general staleness around isn’t helping. I’ve just got visions of our end sitting in silence, YNWA ringing around, then a sea of black white flags getting praise for our support, despite the defeat. Fair dues, avoiding it because you feel less attached to the state of modern football is very different to avoiding it because you don't think you can't face the prospect of potentially watching us get beaten And I get where you're coming from, so much about the modern game is ruining the sport. It's increasingly hard to watch something that feels so removed from what it was supposed to be Edited 11 hours ago by bobbydazzla

Rich
There’s a massive danger of this becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy like. I’m not particularly looking forward to it, but I’m going to try and force myself to give it some. I’ll have to hit Magdad up for a little bumper. Would rather no-one took their scarf as twirling it looks so amateurish. Would rather people brought their voices.
Benwell Lad
Crazy to think that years ago someone would say at closing time "do you fancy going to (name any club in the country) tomorrow" and eight hours later you'd be in the back of a transit van heading down the A1. Done that so many times. The best memories despite the turgid football, mostly anyway.

J7
I think I’m actually more scarred by the FA Cup semi in 2005 in all honesty. The pathetic display, over the top celebration at Sholas consolation, and Nicky Butt walking around being cuddled by Man Utd players at full time. Don’t think I’ve ever been as annoyed at a game. Absolutely fucking hating our manager didn’t help.

Tbf wish we'd support the team like that in the cup final coming up, least the support had some pride and backed the lads knowing we were always gonna get spanked. Rather us being singing 4-1 down that on tube back to central London like some fans will be at Wembley. Edited 6 hours ago by NUFC91

Then threw away a 2-0 lead in the UEFA Cup Quarter final in Lisbon midweek. Edited 5 hours ago by TwoForJoy

J7
Christ, I hadn’t realised it was as bad as that. I remember utterly despising Souness and being fuming, but I hadn’t realised all those results were on top of each other. There were a few horror results in that season. 1-4 at home to Fulham I’m sure was the point I wanted him out.

Exactly I’d happily pay over the top again to be at Wembley if I thought the occasion would be worth it. Yeah we’ll probably get turned over but where used to that, what I’m not used to is how bad our current fanbase is, if I thought our fans would make an occasion of it and you’d hear the Blaydon Races, Geordie Boot Boys and Howay The Lads etc reverberating around Wembley i’d be there come hook, or crook. Unfortunately those days are gone and it still rankles me now that the Mancs wanted it more than us 2 years ago, it was fucking embarrassing and a major low pissing all over the reputation of a fanbase built over the years, for the Blaydon Races not to be sung once at a major showpiece was sickening and you’ve got to question if we have lost our identity completely at this point.
