huss9
atmosphere's great in the concourses at away games - then just dies once the game starts.

No longer do the ones who want to be there the most get into the ground, it's now names out of a hat so to speak. I've seen myself faking doctors and dentist appointments so I could nip away from work at 9.30 in the morning and get back home in time to get my 10 different browsers set up to maximise my chances! Now I've got exactly the same chance as someone who might not even support NUFC but buys a membership cos they fancy trying for a specific match. Charging £58 to sit behind the goals and £75-£97 for a seat along the sides in the East or Milburn Stands also means you aren't really going to attract the vocal radge type to games anymore. You’ve got a point but you can still do the general sale to maximise your chances.

It's quite a small amount of tickets on GS though. Not enough to affect the atmosphere. It used to be best part of 20,000 before the ballot came into operation, which can make a difference. Certainly don't think its any coincidence that the atmosphere took a nose dive pretty much as soon as the club went down the ballot route. The huge ticket price hikes this season have just added to it. Can only speak for myself here but I've stopped applying and I'd certainly class myself as one of the more vocal fans! I do agree with what you’re saying. But I think there are loads of factors involved. Cost, ballot and the type of people going to games, like you’ve already mentioned. Although I think at least two of those are the same for most clubs in the Prem. I do also think entitlement has crept in. It’s not even meant as a dig, as it is human nature up to a point. We’ve got used to being half decent and the bar and expectation levels have been raised. The best home atmospheres have always been when we’re underdogs and up against it. Showing plenty of fight and defending for our lives. Or when the crowd feel like they’ve been fucked over by the ref. That even gets the East Stand lot going (along with players stealing yards off throw ins) Nowadays when I go. It often feels like everyone is waiting to be entertained and there is far less jeopardy. Always seems like we’re going to score and/or get something out the game. Even when we’re not playing well. It wasn’t like that to start with after the takeover. As it was still a novelty, not being shit I’ve been going semi-regularly since 2007 and when we were crap and in relegation scraps. The nervousness and what was at stake did add to the atmosphere at times. A lot less riding on games now and the crowd seem to want something on the pitch to cheer. As opposes to trying to support the team and help them to perform better.

bobbydazzla
Right, I know I’m like a broken record and am constantly in here whinging after matches. But today I was next to two blokes with ST’s who just yapped about anything but football for the entire game. They had mild interest in the match and major interest in showing off to each other about their money and lifestyles. It was incessant. A lad a few seats along started joining in with some songs and the yapping pair laughed at him, called him a day tripper and sang Day Tripper by the Beatles. What hope is there when we’re up against cunts like that. Edited January 4 by bobbydazzla

Indeed, Porsche’s were mentioned. Hearing people yap all the way through a match is annoying, but it is what it is and I try to tune out. It’s better than slagging our own players off constantly. But laughing at a fan joining in with songs and calling him a day tripper is just a fucking disgrace. These entitled wankers need their ST’s revoked and banning from the ground.
