I think there’s people who want to chant, but as they are in isolated places, nothing takes off. The demographic is certainly of an age where it’s stagnated somewhat. I’m in my early 40s but would still be happy to sing and bounce about. However I look around, and this is no ageist thing, but those in the 55+ category might as well be mute for the majority of the time. Even the yoof I’ve been next too aren’t arsed. Sat near some youngins the other day and they just blabbered about sneakers the whole time. Then fucked off on 72 mins. all of this boils my piss, especially when some of those who want to make something of it, can’t get back in to do it. however they are entitled to do what they want…I suppose but yes, baffles me why they bother. Same as those that spend more time in the concourse, having a piss, (doing coke),then leave early. We lost a lot of good vocal fans during Ashley’s tenure, and not enough of them are back, or can get back in. Difficult one. No real answers only that if we get a new stadium, everyone who wishes to generate an atmosphere needs to be situated together. Anyone else, go sit elsewhere. Realty is I think it you add standing in both leaves and Gallowgate it fixes problem, unfortunately needs someone driving it, trusts wor flags etc, even then club seem to be not interested. LFEE Posted Wednesday at 23:27 Share Posted Wednesday at 23:27 Was sat beside someone very high up at NUFC all game tonight and told them we needed four “strawberry corners” in all four corners of the ground to encourage the more timid to get involved and the stands to bounce off each other more so I’ve done my bit as promised. Heron Posted Wednesday at 23:49 Share Posted Wednesday at 23:49 (edited) For me the atmosphere seemed really, really poor tonight. However, the Strawberry Corner is a bit of an echo chamber. Curious about other people's takes from outside of there... I was a bit flat pre-match, I don't mind saying. I felt a bit like "What Newcastle will turn up tonight?" And that curse of the close but not close enough setting in. I'll be honest like, I just don't understand going to the match and not trying to make an atmosphere. Especially this day in age when you can watch almost every game at home in the warmth and with multiple camera angles. This thread and me-myself, are just like reverberating echoes of a bygone era I feel but even then I wonder if I just see things with rose tinted glasses... The 90s was the pinnacle of football essentially. The decline of football violence on the UK but enough aggro to at least muster up some encouragement. Now it's full of folk turning up to be entertained and shout "bravo". Edited yesterday at 07:19 by Heron

I have a vivid memory of The Mag bemoaning our atmosphere during probably our best best ever season (95-96). Thought the atmosphere was fine tonight. We’re an expectant crowd watching a good team. It is what it is. Edited Wednesday at 23:56 by Hovagod
Danh1 Posted yesterday at 00:01 Share Posted yesterday at 00:01 At least we have Hey Jude that no one sings along to before the match and straight after the match too though. Honestly it makes my skin crawl, so fucking small time.
Disco Posted yesterday at 00:03 Share Posted yesterday at 00:03 Things there is no need for; another much worse song to the Jonas song which no-one ever got to grips with; another Lewis Hall song which is rubbish. Pass to Murphy on the right hand side.
Superior Acuña Posted yesterday at 00:26 Share Posted yesterday at 00:26 (edited) I thought it was particularly bad. Started similar to West Ham but obviously without the negative turn. I proper cringed when Bruno and Isak were pumping up the crowd after goals (not at them), felt a bit like when a band lets the crowd sing but it’s a posh festival and no one sings back. Wolves fans were quiet too. Obviously fair enough for later in game, but not much at start either. Big River Posted yesterday at 00:48 Share Posted yesterday at 00:48 corner was noticeably quieter than usual from my vantage point upper gallowgate. just going round in circles with the same discussion every week really. pointless until the club decide atmosphere matters. Yep as let's face it even if we get a new ground it's going to be 5 seasons away so we need to figure this problem asap. Leazes level 4 be perfect imo

I would like more sustained chants but I think our fans do get involved with making noise and reacting to events. We just can’t keep songs going around the ground like we can in the corner. There are plenty of people who want to make a good atmosphere. FWIW I thought the Leazes was pretty good, maybe because of all those tickets returned near the away fans. I consider 3 or 4 decent songs a half to be a good result outside of the corner. Edited yesterday at 11:38 by AyeDubbleYoo

Nostalgic of the Rafa years and the Gallowgate (maybe other parts of the ground too) started to actually belt out the MOVIN ON UP NOW part. Personally not a fan of playing Local Hero at the end either, but aye - Hey Jude before the game is horrible, like. What happened to that opera sort of song we had before Local Hero back in the day? Everyone got on the feet when that started as you knew the teams were in the tunnel.

Fans getting behind team, roaring on into tackles, joining in songs, loads of people around me in leazes can't even be arsed to stand up when there's a penalty etc. This is issue when all 4 stands are same, you really need a different purpose if the stands, atmosphere, corporate etc. I'd extend safe standing around lower Gallowgate and get a 4k standing area in corner of leazes.. LFEE Posted yesterday at 12:34 Share Posted yesterday at 12:34 Hear a lot of criticism about Hey Jude by those wanting a better atmosphere etc. The facts of the matter is it seems the only song that constantly gets the crowd involved and by far gets the loudest reaction. (I attend every home game). You’ve got to be careful you don’t become part of an echo chamber when debating how to improve the atmosphere as you’ll get nowhere. It be nice if we had something more original that we relate to in the local area that works even better but until then… On a side note I see criticism of what Arsenal have started doing recently with their song which no one else does that works for them yet in reality that is exactly what we are looking for. Same with Spurs. To me both are unique (Southampton fans arguably could have a historical say on the Spurs one!) and work well. Ours sadly has become like a megamix. Maybe because it’s trying to please too many people.
