Interesting comments on Pod on the Tyne about DJ Onedeck stopping his set 10 minutes before kick off to let the atmosphere build. Love the sentiment but probably not the best game to run the experiment.

I don’t think it was the case, I think it was just knackered. They didn’t even play that awful PL anthem.

I was saying on Twitter yesterday that the music they play is just so shit and repetitive. I’m bored of whinging about it myself, so no doubt everyone on here is sick too, so apologies.

However, Hey Jude, Movin On Up, Rocking All Over The World and that horrific version of Blaydon Races does nothing but get a half arsed sing along. They play them before and after in some cases. Boring.

After the Benfica game there seemed to be a hiccup with the music and went off for a bit while the players were going on their lap, just as a song started to spread from the corner into the Gallowgate it kicked in again at full volume 🙄

I think they played an advert - before the game and at half time they have to play them too. Considering only about 60% of the stadium can see the big screen it’s pretty dire.

He’s got to stop saying “enjoy the game” as well. About the least intimidating phrase possible and guaranteed to set the wrong tone.

I actually like the "enjoy the game" comment. It's become a familiar thing. Synonymous with home games. Don't mind it at all.

I do mind the attendance being announced. Who cares?

I can never understand why fans applaud themselves after the announcement either. A pat on the back for turning up and being able to enjoy something loads of others can't these days.

Tbf I sit on the sofa and announce how many people are in the room watching my SnideTV

Then we all clap as well.

If DJ Onedek was a horse he’d have been sent to the knackers yard a long time ago.

His pre-match schtick is better suited to a night in fancy dress at the darts than the build up to an intimidating football atmosphere that makes opponents doubt their own manhood as they enter a cauldron of noise.

Nothing ironic about it. As I've pointed out to the Hey Jude haters on here many times, Naa na na na na na na Geordies has been one of our songs since the late '60s. Remember singing it in the old Leazes End, early '70s.

@LFEE didn't you bring safe standing to the trust a few times, are they still pushing this to the club?

Really felt like we were going somewhere. They introduced it in the away end and then the corner. Since then, nowt. There’s been tweaks to ticketing processes but nothing when it comes to enhancing the atmosphere in SJP.

The FAB care more about ensuring their gifts policy is nice and favourable rather than an issue like this.

The FAB don’t look the types to be concerned with the match atmosphere, hardly a representative sample of your average local fan.

We should have a local song from Lindisfarne, or Sam Fender before launching into a decent version of the Blaydon Races just before kick off.

Agree we’ve always sang Geordies but as stated above it’s become generic shite. We have so much local music history there’s just no need for it and what about ‘Coming Home’, from Busker another absolute classic that should be a staple.

It’s probably a bit too complex for our fanbase. Most people don’t even know the correct words to the main chorus of Blaydon Races ffs.

It could be in there but does it get the crowd really going before kick off not sure?

I’ve just always associated it with us playing at home, it’s always been there.

I don’t think any music from DJ Onedek gets the crowd hyped, it’s just the same old Status Quo, Ramones, Beatles, Shit version of the Blaydon Races combo.

Sometimes he’ll drop that godawful AC/DC that’s had Toon Toon forced into it like an unlubed butt plug.

It’s just shite. If we have to have music then he should mix it up. But I’d prefer we let the crowd generate the noise.

Exactly was hoping it would progress but sadly not, regardless of FAB you'd like to think trust/supporters club/WF could get together and push it forward, who knows if it will make a difference but probably only option.

Aye, are they fucking stupid on Pod on the Tyne? The PL anthem is surely a non-negotiable [emoji38]

What would you suggest instead?

Any song recommendations?

Would like us to play local bands/artists - not necessarily the same song. AC/DC, Sam Fender (17 Going under at Wembley was class for example from what I’ve seen), Lindisfarne, Dire Straits, Busker…..to name just a few of many. Loads of songs to choose from there without playing the same every week.

At half time he mixes it up and plays some decent music. Played the Gorillaz midweek.

Only song I’d play every week is Local Hero. I know it isn’t exactly a song that gets people up for it but it’s tradition.
