What's a massive contract? We've a wage structure under INEOS now. If Tonali thinks he's going to get a Casemiro deal then we're the wrong club for him. It will be £180-200k, and if that's not enough for him we'd just move on to Wharton.

I do think a fans perspective is always the most important though. The reaction on here about this news has me a tad worried if we did sign him, as I was under the impression he was absolutely class.

Tonali is an 8.

Wharton is a 6.

Tonali has an amazing engine. Wharton doesn't.

Tonali misplaces passes. Wharton doesn't.

I'm paraphrasing.

What you after?

Man U will give him a massive contract and they look like they’ll be in the champions league, this is the reality of football thesedays. CL opportunity and massive wages increase talks.

I don't think CL even comes into the equation when someone can double, triple their wages as we found in the Summer

A Casemiro replacement. Mainoo is about to get a new contract and he's more of an 8.

The plan is a three man midfield with Fernandes, Mainoo and a new signing.

He is, the reaction to him would have been very different 3-4 months ago. People just have tremendously short memories, the team have performed badly overall for the most part so it's not surprising individual performances have degraded.

Nobody had their wages doubled or tripled from what you offered.

We used to for sure but not anymore as there's a wage structure under INEOS. None of our signings under INEOS are on more than £195k.

Tonali would be offered in and around that amount, with a bonus obviously. Maybe a 20% pay rise from what he's on now, but nothing you couldn't match.

I thought he looked much happier playing for Italy than he does when playing for us.

His body language looked more relaxed and the expressions on his kipper were much more positive.

It was like seeing happy Sandro dancing in Dontino's when we're used to seeing unhappy Sandro working in Accounts Payable at Egger.

This is the horrible season he's had... I had to stop in mid-September because I can only quote 50 messages, but it's like this until the end of October.

Then he had two or three bad months, and then since the end of January I think he's playing better.

Trippier is having a horrible season, certainly not Sandro.

Not only was he winning the ball in the 50-50's, his first touch immediately following was often sublime, putting him in great positions to start the counter attacks. It was elite football, and we are going to have the top clubs lusting after him this season I reckon.

I wonder what it must be like to be a Man Utd fan and not realise how absolutely elitist and corrupt your team is, thinking you've had it really tough and everyone should feel sorry for you.

His dip in form and fatherhood overlapped. If we sell him to Man United I will melt Froggy into glass and drink coffee from his bones.

If we get a decent fee for him I'm not too fussed. These things are bound to happen and he really hasn't been great this season.

It's also possible to look at things this way; if we get a big fee for him it really hammers home Howe's player development ability. He more than doubled Isak's value and could turn a really nice profit on Tonali. He's probably also doubled Bruno's value and increased Gordon's even if his fee was very high (a lot of people laughed at that initially). Needless to say what he's done for Joelinton, Murphy, Schar et al.

I think the concept of player development is a bit underrated. Players carreer trajectories aren't predetermined destiny. Under Howe the club is really building a reputation for player development which not only turns a penny into a pound but significantly helps us in the transfer market. Players and their agents know this is a place to make proper strides forward in their carreers which should give us an advantage.

Well that's enough optimism for the day. Back to the moping grindstone.

Re Trippier, Hes a back up playing in a defence that isnt getting defended by those in front.

He has a great engine and gets back really well in defensive transitions. Those are his two consistent strong points.

Been very disappointed in his ability to help facilitate play from the back and take a bit more charge in midfield when we have the ball. He doesn't move around that well to find space to receive the ball and when he gets the ball he can be quite sloppy with it. Also, outside of defensive transitions, when we are under pressure and need to keep defensive shape, he tends to also get drawn out of position.

I genuinely don't think he'll be a big loss to the team, not anywhere near the same way Bruno G would. I'm quite confident we'll be able to replace him adequately without too much palaver, and in a way I'd be quite eager to see if we could actually get an improvement as far as adding some more control and composure in that midfield 6 position.
