Sandro Tonali

£100 million for Tonali is insane money. Cracking player and I’ve enjoyed watching him, but for that money you want someone who can have more influence on a game.

 

Would much rather he went abroad as I cannot wish anyone who goes to another English club well.

Yes and they would choose them over any nufc CL season year out year in European football or not. CL or whatever is just a bonus on the back of a big contract.

Tonali, Gordon and Isak are big personalities to replace.  At their best they all bring a lot mental quality to the team.   Tonali is authorative and street smart. Gordon can be relentless and aggressive. Isak calm and composed.  
 

On paper Gordon and Tonali are ‘replaceable’ but it’s a challenge imo.  We’ve not signed players as good as them in years. 

 

Problem is we've not seen much leadership or authority from Tonali in about 18 months. He was shocking in both derbies and the hiding at the Nou Camp.

 

He's a good player, but we've not seen that player for far too long now.

If we need 4 or 5 players and most of that needs to be raised through player sales then it was always likely to be from someone you would prefer to have stayed.

 

If you only sold the not good enough let's say that's pope, murphy, willock will those 3 raise anything above say 35 or 40m? Will anyone want them?

 

I won't celebrate sandro going but if he must go getting close to double our money on him makes it slightly more palatable. It's all worthless if the fee is wasted though.

His play after Bruno went down was absolutely pathetic. Zero leadership. Zero authority. Never seen that in him.

 

Lets see what he looks like with no more Bruno alongside him. God help Spurs if they don't get someone that can take charge of the play in build up.

Some of us on the here are really harsh on the guy. He’s a brilliant player and the work he gets through will be missed for sure. I’d say there’s no way we can get £100m for him, but you have to take that sort of fee for him if it’s on offer

I can see some thought in selling him for £80m plus now and trying to replace him with Camara for half that fee

I don’t agree with that.  He usually plays that way. He also gives the ball away loads and doesn’t offer much in the final third.  He never hides.  But he plays with leadership and authority in a way that few in our team do.

My point is that we aren't vulnerable to losing players to the likes of Spurs if we are in the CL. Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea are a different level again.

Let's see how Villa get on if they offer £90-100m for Rogers. If Spurs offer that and £200-250k a week, he's not saying no.

Same. I’ve always thought he didn’t at all look like someone with the mobility we need during the few times I watched Monaco - but we seem to be tracking him as the guy right now

But again in what sense does European football matter then? Is it only Spurs? Im not even sure about that. These are the clubs we are trying to compete with, not Everton/Leeds. In the big picture European football doesnt matter much to us against a lot of clubs.

Not sure where Villa stand in terms of FFP. I know they were unable to register some of their 1st team players for the Europa last season because of the 70% UEFA rule. Feels like they've always sailed even closer to the wind than we do in FFP terms. They may have no option but to sell and may even need to invite bids.

 

On the other hand they may be fine now. I honestly don't know. Just seems like it's us and them who seem to get hit hardest
