Why not? It is a huge risk yes but he scored the second most goals per minute for any player scoring 5 or more goals in the premier league last season and there was also quite a wide range of different types of goal he scored and during this time we were playing pretty poorly as a team.

The rate he was scoring at last season would have equalled 30 goals over a whole campaign. Obviously he won't hit these figures but I see no reason why he can't get close to 20 which is pretty good these days.

I hope you're right, he's improved a lot, that's for sure, but I'd be more relaxed if we had a great striker next to him

All the previous comments show just what a good job FFP has done to disadvantage us. Masters and the cartel

must be pleased with the results.

PIF could show some balls though. I know Stavely wasn’t the financial muscle and she left under a bit of a cloud but she had some of that Keegan spirit.

Just seems like we are rolling over now.

If we get 100 million for him I am happy to be wrong.

If we can get 120 million I'll turn around at the end and swim back up.  As much as I like Tonali, to get something approaching Isak money for him is mental.

The most important thing is who we will replace the departing players with, because we haven't even found a replacement for Isak.

Or Gordon or Almiron. We have tried, but we have a lot to do.

It's only through Howe performing miracles when we won the cup and gained Champions League that so many focus on momentum now slowing.

In truth momentum slowed a good few seasons ago, indeed after the window where we signed Tonali in 23/24. Since then we've either had windows where we sign no one or have to sell our best players to get fresh faces in.

Domino effect from the Everton points deduction. Led to June 2024. Staveley leaving.

To be honest I have never been able to completely shake the feeling that he doesn't really want to be here. Personally (while I concede it is stupid of me) I dislike that he agrees to do these fluff pieces talking about how much he loves life here and then appears to instruct agent to find a way out the moment it's not as good as it can possibly be; there has never been a stronger case of "you owe us" than this guy.

Well we know that he didn't really want to leave Milan, he did it because the club needed the sale, and he got a lot more money I would imagine.

Tbh, I don't really think he wants to move to London either, but if he's not going home, then he might as well make as much money as possible, and they can pay him more than we can.

Athletic's Daniel Taylor saying City would eye Tonali in addition to Anderson and could commit over 200m to get both.

If that is not a gut punch to what the football accountants have done to the game. So let me get this straight, because a band of football clubs only caring to protect themselves with the pre 2015/2016 head start on uncapped/unregulated financial head start can force NUFC to sell both (essentially) to the richer clubs? Fuck sake man.

It's so grim. All those charges still hanging over them, still spending with utter disdain for any of it.

Agree. if we wer able to compete on a level playing field with the head-start cartel clubs we'd arguably have Anderson, Bruno, Tonali as our midfield 3 - a some 300m engine room signed for what, 80-90m? we'd have Minteh as our RW we signed for peanuts, we'd have Isak here on a fresh fat contract as the highest paid player we've ever had...our scouting would have looked next level.

And this all not counting the players we prob could have signed without the restrictions. Hell Joao Pedro was likely going to be signed in addition to Isak if we could afford it, ffs.

Yes, Newcastle are FORCED to sell Tonali because in an era of FFP/PSR/SCR regulations (which Newcastle voted for) spent huge amounts of money on utter garbage last summer.

They voted on the thing that restricted them the least at all times, no vote and no restrictions wasn’t an option

Seems a bidding war is gonna start for him if that article is anything to go by. Camara and Hackney and we'd probably still have £40m left over...

This won’t be allowed to happen.  They will negotiate behind the scenes on who gets to bid for him.  Then bid low.
