If the bid is right, let's go ahead and book his flight.

Eddie has no idea how to get the best out of him at all. Tonali looks out of place and lost out there. Purely there just to run back and stop transitions at the minute, which is pretty sad really.

He has never really been able to pass the ball well and has always given the ball away often even going back to last season when he was class, the problem is last season he was so good at everything else it didn't really matter but he's nowhere near that level now.

I don’t think that’s right. He very rarely gave the ball away when he was on top of his game

Not sure what's happened, he was a world beater only a few months ago.

He's so average now I'd be tempted to cash in if there's a big offer. Though still hopeful he can regain his better form.

Him and Joelinton together isn't really working now. They have no chemistry and just storm about the field at random creating nowt (though at least Joelinton can control a game and get a couple goals on occasion).

He still celebrates our goals. That's where my hope that he is still content here is coming from.

I honestly can't remember

These's been glimpses of the Tonali we all love but they are few and far between. Part of me thinks he's been tapped up and his head is elsewhere.  Though realistically where could he go?  City don't need him, Liverpool and Chelsea are stocked of midfielders.  Juv wouldn't be able to afford him.

For some he’s Gone from the best CM we’ve ever had to ‘sell’ in 3 months.

He shouldn’t be in either conversation - he was never particularly great technically, he’s a water carrier.  Play him in the holding role and keep him there.  And yes, if a crazy offer comes in then potentially cash-in - but that’s no different from any other player in the squad in the age of PSR.

This is just mean reversion. People were too enthusiastic about his talent.

Yep, it was OTT.  He was always the second-best midfielder at the club - the idea that he was possibly the best midfielder in the division was ridiculous.  And I know Paul Scholes was one of those who said that.

I think you are massively underrating his performances for the past 12 months before this recent not so good spell, and also oblivious that Bruno had long been mediocre before his recent goal contributions in the past 2 months

I’m oblivious to neither - I think Tonali is a very good midfielder whose qualities were overstated, and the same applies to Bruno.  Bruno was always a better footballer.

Why is now the correct period to judge him, and not the previous period where he was world class?

Because he’s neither a poor footballer nor a world class one (and I never thought his form was ‘world class’ at any point).  World class footballers don’t have extended periods like this.  He’s a really good holding midfielder who has peaks and dips in form.  ‘World class’ for me means he’s arguably the best in his position - he’s that level just below it.

edit: by way of explanation, if you’re writing out a list of the world’s top 25 midfielders, Tonali is definitely in there with a shout.  If you’re writing out a list of the world’s best 5 midfielders, no-one is having him on that list.

How did he suddenly lose the ability to pass? i love him and honestly think having him made the difference last season but i guess he's a bit tired lately and will be happy to see Miley start on Wednesday as he's earned it.

I think he’s better than his current showing but he’s always misplaced first time passes and was never elite on the ball.

He’s not playing well and I expect him to improve. but he’s not as bad as some are making out. And I was never of the belief he was better than Bruno, he’s never been good enough on the ball.  Even last season Bruno was measurably better on the ball.

I think Tonali’s main strengths are his physicality and mentality. Playing so many games he’s lost the big edge he had on others last season having not played for a year.  And the pace of the PL is unforgiving. And it’s impacting his weaker aspects such as his passing.

I only watch Newcastle, PL and CL and Real Madrid regularly.  I’m not sure he’s top 25 itw. He’s not a lock at least. Theres good arguments he’s not the best CM at club or international football and neither of those are top 5 in the world Or even their country/continent.
