I’m guessing he’s being tasked with trying Hollywood balls at every opportunity rather than putting his foot on it and doing the smart, tactical thing.

Some of his runs to regain possession were top drawer. Can't remember too many misplaced or sloppy passes mind. Didn't contribute attacking wise but more than made up for that with the fact he was all over the pitch.

He worked very hard but it reminds me of his first few games for us when you don't really know where he is playing, midfield balance seems very off at the moment despite the results.

He’s so much better in the 6, seems like he’s way ahead of that at times this season which is why we’re seeing so many recovery runs.

His positioning is totally off at the moment, like. The amount of times the defence had the ball and were trying to play it into midfield and he was nowhere to be seen was mad.

Was a noticeable difference when he was subbed off and Bruno moved there.

He doesn't have the instincts for finding space to receive the ball and progressing play from the back.

Everytime he starts there now the team looks incapable of playing out from the back. As soon as Bruno drops in there you see an immediate improvement.

Playing Tonali there offers better protection defensively in transition, but it's not worth it because it makes the team impossibly bad building up any kind of play from the back and through midfield.

And they parked Wharton on him which stunted our ability to link defence and midfield.

He is not in the best of form and has not been for a while now. Could do with a rest, focus on the new baby coming and be at his best for the crunch times coming.

Plays as a left sided 8 for Italy and does well for them there.

Wish we'd at least try him in that position to see how he fares. Don't think he's played there once since joining.

It was his lovely first time ball which started the move for the Wissa chance in the 2nd minute.

Like 99% of CMs he doesn’t like being pressed. Bruno invites a press.

Tonali has never been amazing on the ball either. Not close to Bruno anyway.

All of our midfielders play percentage passes that just turn defenders. It’s ugly and sets a poor precedent. Tonali has always played fast sometimes leading to poor passes but he should be encouraged to slow down and just tick it over and it never happens

He really needs to be told to do the basics. Stay as a 6, don't venture around the pitch. He must be the one mopping up when Joelinton and Bruno and our overeager fullbacks are nowhere to be seen.
