Markedly less crap today. 👍

Seen he still got some criticism from some quarters but I thought he was really important in closing them down quickly. Might not be back to his best with the forward passing, but his distribution was definitely better than it has been.

Eddie when asked about the lack of shots / goals from outside the penalty area (and compared to Villa):

“Sandro, for example, has got a rocket of a right foot and we're always encouraging him to shoot more than he does because, you know, I've said many times that he's got one of the hardest shots that I've seen and we see that continually in training,” Howe added. “But it's getting him in those positions and getting him feeling comfortable to do that. So I think it's very much dependent on the individual player."

What has happened to him? Still got the energy and workrate. But he was never this sloppy on the ball and he is also developing a habit of not knowing where his man or midfield runners are. Often ball watching.

This guy should be played as an 8 until he fully settles there.

At the very least we'll see a few bursts forward like he had for the early shot.

He is shocking dictating play from a deep midfield position.

If that's where he has to play, he should be sold and replaced with someone else.

The early miss will stick with me for a long time. Had the entire goal to aim at and it was easier to score. For a while now finding myself really frustrated by his form on the ball.

So nobody talks about how he just switched off and gave Buendia all the time and space to shoot?? Just watched the goal again, and I think that was absolutely inexcusable. There was no other threat distracting him, he just decided to sack it off and watch Buendia score that curler

Criminal to allow Buendia that much space to shoot.

He's good tracking back when teams are running at us in transition and that's it.

Positional discipline when defending in any other moment is poor, as it is with Bruno too. Both love leaving their position to press aggressively and leaving spaces behind them.

One day maybe we'll have a DM that protects the defence.

I would love us to move them both (Bruno and Tonali) up as a CM pairing. With the same brief, doing the same stuff (more or less) with an out and out defensive ‘mediano’ sitting behind them. A Makélélé type (actually Batty would be a better example) who could fill in the gaps when they broke forward.

Given his current range of passing, might be better off asking Tonali to play as DM. Get ball. Lay it off to someone who can do the creative stuff. Keep it simple. Keep possession.

We/he could but I don’t think that is playing to his strengths. When he is on it, and when Bruno is also, I can’t imagine many midfields/teams coping with them playing a more generic box to box role  (bar Barca who were outrageously good in the middle).
