NUFC Transfer Rumours

At goalkeeper, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili have been watched. However, Newcastle’s failure to qualify for Europe means they are now considering whether to pursue either a young shot-stopper or an experienced No 2 instead of a direct challenger to Pope. Newcastle have registered an interest in Burnley’s James Trafford and are likely to follow with a bid, while Queens Park Rangers’ Asmir Begovic has been linked.

Seems to squash the rumour that we'd tabled a £35m bid for the unpronounceable Georgian keeper

Trafford does seem more plausible, especially if we're wanting to keep Pope around, but the club understandably tend to be a bit of a closed book this time of year and will pursue long term targets at the detriment of positional priority.

Can anyone think of any examples where succession planning for keepers has worked? It’s one of those positions where you just get the best you can and stick with it.

Im not sure splurging 25n on Trafford is the play at this point with that in mind.

Absolute none event of an article. More Waugh waffle without saying anything new.

3 out of 4 of those points are news to me like.

It's actually astonishing the lack of knowledge some journalists have.

Was watching another one talking about how we won't be signing Bowen because he won't want to play second fiddle to Isak.

And I agree with the above. Chris Waugh is alright, boring, but alright. He's not making stuff up or guessing.

The article is a lot of speculation though. It’s pretty much just links to players other journalists have mentioned.

Feels a smorgasbord of everything most of us have seen on here for weeks. No surprises at all.

One thing Mark Douglas does better is mostly the same as Waugh but tends to have one new titbit.

Article also mentions Summerville for the RW role, isn’t he a LW?

He can play on the right but he is one footed with his right from what I’ve seen of him, so not suited to cut in from that side.

Trafford being the main target now is definitely new, as is us definitely having to sell by 30th June.

Some people will whinge about anything like.

Those definitely aren’t new mind. Hope reported the Trafford news over a week ago and us needing money before June 30th had been said for months.

Basically people will be gutted we aren't spunking on Marmadashvilli.

Trafford would be a low cost, sensible option. He'd not demand to be our number 1, he'd not cost a fortune and he'd have the potential to become our number 1 or develop enough for us to get our money back.

The 30th June thing was only speculated about IIRC, Trafford had been mentioned but we were linked with Marmadashvili again just 2 days ago and Trafford was never explicitly said to be our main target.

So new that we knew about it and debated it for the last week?

It was confirmed a week ago that Trafford was the main target ahead of Marmadashvili - who we were again linked with 2 days ago - was he?

Apologies, didn't realise that these articles were only for the people who don't go outside.

Waugh is contractually obligated to say “PSR is an issue” in every tweet and every time he opens his mouth. I used to like him but now he’s just as bad as the other two on that banterous podcast he’s on with moody teen Caulkin and the one that says “lovely stuff” at the end of every segment.
