Having the top clubs that are struggling for form in February/March hovering up the top players from the rest of the league as a short term fix would be absolute cancer.

 

Clubs are already free to open negotiations with any club and player at any time, it's just their registration that can't be transferred until the window is open.

Some clubs live to develop and sell players to bigger clubs, it's part of their philosophy (Brighton)

Not only that but say for a club that found themselves in the situation we did last year, being able to address an obvious shortcoming in the squad that was going to derail an entire season.

 

I think that would bring about a bit of stability to a majority of clubs.

It’s to stop big clubs unsettling players every week causing absolute chaos ahead of certain fixture. Liverpool could go in for AG weeks leading up to playing us then just sack it off for example. You might laugh and think ridiculous but it’s the Wild West. Clubs will do anything. Window should be closed before pre-season and re-open after last game of the season including any Cup Finals. No January window.

I know, just can’t see us selling enough people to make room or making a decision about Gordon and Barnes. Happy to be wrong and see a starter come in, obvs.

Im a fan of Mbuemo and could see the logic and how his style would fit along with his work ethos. 
 

Then I started to think would we really of advanced the position that much for such a huge fee. 
 

It would’ve took a lot of money to improve the RW marginally with Mbuemo rather than what would feel like a giant leap when we tried at least to tempt Olise for what would’ve been a similar fee.

 

So without turning my nose up at him I definitely changed my thinking on him. Especially when our budget is so tight.

I think Mbeumo is more than a marginal improvement, maybe not Olise levels but not too far off and way better than what we have.

I think this is the only debate. The margin of improvement he’d be to the side. 
 

Knowing Brentford have lost Toney and his replacement still out injured (I think?) and Wissa recently injured and notoriously good sellers you’ve got to ask yourself is there bigger upgrades for less money elsewhere.

You’re right about could we get the same level of improvement for less as Brentford will want a premium for him. Up to us to decide if that premium (proven PL performer) v talent proven in foreign leagues but with no guarantees of adapting is worth it.
 

As has been mentioned in the Guehi thread money’s tight and we can’t afford to take the hit on a dud so paying a premium for a proven player may be more sensible.

The good thing about a constantly open window is if someone did get one of your big players off you. 

You'd have plenty of time to bring someone in to replace them. 

Same with injuries like botman we could go get a makeshift loan so your season doesn't die.

Downside (for wealthy vultures) is as it’s open for longer less time pressure on distressed sellers to sell by a certain date.

You know what I wish? That someone had spotted Mbeumo 6/12 months ago. I don't think there was a fan in the world thought he was a good player back then... not a single person. Certainly not anyone with a name being with K.

Feel like this board is missing someone who could feed us knowledge on any African based players, it's certainly missing someone who could hammer the point home every 5 minutes and let some of us know that we are fat and lazy. Alas, can't have everything.

He’s a very exciting talent but I don’t think he’s the actual profile of RW we need - he’s more of an inverted attacker (if that makes any sense)
