Sibierski
7 hours ago, Pata said: Why wouldn’t he get a new contract? It’s an absolute no-brainer as his transfer value is close to nothing, low wages, local lad who is a leader and still performing on the pitch. Edit. Should’ve probably quoted Sibierski. Because we should be only keeping one of Schar or Burn IMO, and Schar is the better use. Don’t bring in Kelly on £100k+ pw back up to then still keep Burn, just would be strange. I believe we wanted a CB this summer, and then likely one next summer who’s probably of a younger age. Getting none this summer shouldn’t change that requirement/plan next summer. He’s a great lad, local, and yea would be cheap wages compared to others. But let’s be honest, if we are moving forward as a club, you can’t be having him getting solid minutes next season. And we need to learn to move players on at the right time when opportunity is there.
STM
We could, I dunno, have a SQUAD of players to choose from.
Rich
Krafth and Targett will go before Burn, and rightly so.
gbandit
Not a Dummett or Ritchie scenario with Burn. He’s someone who actually offers a lot. The concern will be how his body holds up as if he loses more pace it’ll be hard for him but he’s a valuable player, for his performances as well as his character
jigen
Howe wanted to spend 70m for Guehi and 40 for Elanga. This would have been a disaster for the present and especially for the future. You were very lucky and you must thank Parish. But now keep away Howe from the market.

You have the potential (huge fanbase and rich owners) to become a regular CL team. But you need to implement a structure: everyone must have (and respect) his role. So the coach must be the coach and the sporting director must be the sporting director.
Zero
I just wonder how much would be the transfer fees if we need to find someone to replace Burn, and on what level of wages

Obviously the hope is we improve over time but he’s genuinely let no one down. Targett goes down as a “what could have been” for me. Looked a lock for the LB slot after his loan but absolutely shot to pieces with injuries. He needs to move on for his own benefit. He’ll also be a NUFC quiz question for being the first player injured by eczema.

Every chance we get the last out of him this season, but it shouldn't cloud the judgement that we need to keep him on say a new 2 year deal.

Shak
Burn is well capable of doing a job as a squad member. Backup CB and emergency LB. Issue is, we've just given Kelly a long term contract and he seems to be the exact same thing.

AyeDubbleYoo
Targett could still be a good option to go along with Hall TBH. Unless we’re signing a LB, or his injuries have finished him as a PL player.
nufc4eva
Burn is a great squad player to have around. He has his limitations but can do a solid job coming in if get first choice sorted. Similarly Krafth not let anyone down, puts the effort in and decent squad player. Cost 5 million and covered Right Back and Centre Half and done ok in those roles. Bang average but mostly know what you are getting when he plays

I would highly doubt he will get much slower before he actually retires, if he gets much slower he will be down to walking football, it's not really a massive concern if his pace goes he doesn't really have any as it is, he has other talents than pace, he is also 32 rather than 42 as seems to be being implied What he offers in terms of keeping new players linked to the club is probably an intangible that gets massively overlooked, a squad needs to have a bit of personality to it. Because every now and then you have Wimbledon away in the cup or you have an injury crisis where you need a an old war horse to see you through a game or two. We are no where near the position to just let go players who are starting for us right now and someone who has been one of our more consistent performers this season. We all agree that Burn doesn't start if everyone is fit. He's probably 4th choice but even if he's relegated to 6th choice, you keep him.

Cutting out the former for the latter, when Burn won't even be demanding high wages, just doesn't make and practical sense.
TRon
Hopefully the PSR rules will get amended or dumped sooner rather than later. Then we can keep leadership team players like Burn, Longstaff and Murphy as valuable squad members while still having the ability to sign top class players for the first team.
