NUFC Transfer Rumours

Don't disagree that the winter window isn't where you want to be doing your main business and alot of clubs would want a premium for letting players go mid season however it won't be the case for all players especially those out of favour/needing a fresh start/not signing a new deal the RW is setting such a low bar right now that surely we can do better. Ideally we would find a player who can play RW and forward to mix our play up a bit. Potentially sacking a season off to take stock next summer doesn't seem an option for the trajectory the club wish to go in to keep their best players or maximise their value and attract the bigger sponsorship rates etc

We sort of sacked off last season as well, we couldn't afford to make the signings we needed when we got a boatload of injuries, then weren't really in a position to fix it in January without selling Miggy to the Saudi league which was blocked by the player.

Same could happen this season as well. We wanted a CB and couldn't get Guehi through the door. As it turns out, we seem to have bigger issues at RW and striker cover, and this isn't likely to be fixed this season either. It might take a couple of seasons of trading, and bringing in some Mitchell signings who will hopefully prove instant hits, to plug those gaps. With PSR restrictions we can't do it any other way.

Everything comes back the commercial side given the rules. Early days obviously and maybe it's not reported on but in not seeing an influx of data people or scouts.

I'm more concerned about the class ceiling I feel we face.

Ah fair enough, yeah. But I’m sure we’re aware of the need for data-driven cheaper signings, I think there was an Athletic article last week about our plans for that but I can’t read it because of the pay wall.

My point was more that everyone seems to be gutted that we didn’t sell a big player or we’re not great sellers like Villa and Brighton. But our players and squad are very different to Brighton’s at the moment, and every top player we sell could mean real reductions in our points total.

I’ve waited 15 years for a football club I’m not ashamed of. People seem to have adapted to the situation and started asking for more remarkably quickly. Forgetting about what we’ve already achieved from an unbelievably low starting point.

I think being owned by the Saudi's complicates things because effectively. it's blocked off the one place who have big money, other than the PL.

For optical reasons I presume, we don't seem to want to sell there because of the PR or how it will look - but the only other league with big money is the PL and they don't want to help us either.

So we're buggered either way.

If our only activity in January is selling Almiron or Murphy for a symbolic fee to one of the struggling teams in the league, and buy a new RW using whatever we sold Almiron or Murphy for + some of the Guehi money I'd be very happy.

Chris Waugh.

As things stand, right-winger is taking precedence over other positions, given neither Murphy nor Miguel Almiron has managed to nail down that role. Newcastle have not strengthened there since the 2021 takeover and it is now having a detrimental effect. Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga remains of interest, but additional checks have been made on wingers based across Europe.

Yeah the RW position is pretty desperate now really.

Elanga man 😩

What the fuck was that Statsbomb partnership all about if that's the best we're aiming for?

Literally Fulham/Wolves tier shit.

That’s the only name he (Waugh) can throw in the hat as we had alleged interest at the end of the summer window. He knows fook all about any other options! There will be other options.

Statsbomb are just data providers they aren't making decisions or selecting targets for us.

Mental if the best we can do is Elanga.

I think he's decent but paying a premium for him would be silly. If we wanted him we should have got him before forest did.

Doesn’t massively make sense, either. As isn’t he right footed? I thought Howe preferred inverted wingers? Murphy playing on the right seems at odds to what he’s gone with most of his time here. If Miggy comes on, Murphy goes to the left, for example.

I don’t think he’s a a bad player and I actually think he could be very effective for us. But considering how long RW has been a position of need. It’s hardly transformative or a signing to get excited about.

Yes, but we provide the data parameters. If we input what we want then it spits out 'Anthony Elanga' then we don't want the right fuckin' things 😂

If the profile we are after ends up being Elanga and you deem this to be a negative then it's a recruitment/ tactical issue.

We all thought the same in the summer regarding Guehi, turns out we did only have one target.

Let’s hope some sensibility and reflection has crept in and we aren’t in as a desperate position.

Technically not true, given our offers for Olise and Tosin although I do appreciate your sentiment.

I think we've Guehi, we got tunnel vision as the noises sent to us was he really wanted to come. We obviously spectacularly failed the calculation of Palace being willing sellers.

Here’s the irony of all ironies… Chris Wood is exactly the third striker we still needed to keep. More durable than Wilson and n more experienced than Wilson. Tireless worker. Would have been the perfect guy to replace Isak after 65 mins.

I'm still glad we got most of our money back on him. If we want a backup striker in their 30's I think we could probably find someone for a bit less.

I would still take Guehi, he looks a player a bit out of form following a summer where he was linked with a move and was faced with being slightly destabilized, a bit like Gordon who I am still happy enough for us to have, it happens.

Elanga for a fee being spoke of between what seems to range from 35 to 50 million feels wrong, should be finding other options somewhere other than that

We have a penchant for undervaluing forwards if they're not scoring regularly like.
