NUFC Transfer Rumours

Just been reading an article about James Mcatee being unsettled at Man City. Not enough playing time and wants to leave.

Similar situation to Cole Palmer and oddly enough similar sort of profile, as far as being a lefty that plays number 10 or on the right. Has also played CM and CF, so pretty versatile.

Tends to look really good for the under 21s when he goes away with them too.

Looked good coming on the other day against Leicester.

I wonder if he's on our radar and if we'd be interested.

Having seen what's happened recently with the likes of Palmer and Delap, I'd be very tempted. Especially with how the Lewis Hall transfer has worked out for us too.

I'm a big fan of nicking these highly rated prospects from Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal, if they are looking to leave for more playing time, as their academies are so good.

22 years old too, so a good age to really kick on now. Could he be a right wing option perhaps?

City usually insist on both clauses where they get any share of future sale plus buy backs. Either that or you pay the usual English premium. Unless he's a potential mega talent who is a sure thing it probably isn't worth it.

True and if reasonably priced would take a punt on him.

So would I because I truly believe the only thing standing between us and a place in the CL is a quality back up striker.

There were no clauses for Palmer to Chelsea. He wanted out and it's a similar scenario here.

The fee being mentioned is £25 million, as his contract is up in 2026, so it won't be a big fee.

When Chelsea signed Palmer no one was saying he was a potential mega talent or sure thing, that wasn't said about Delap either, and we weren't saying that about Hall.

It's going to come down to being a judgement call by the scouts. He's highly thought of prospect and so hopefully we've got decent info on him.

Why would he only be £25m if Palmer was £50m?

I mentioned his contract situation in my post. It's going into its final year. Palmer still had another 3 years to run on his at the time he left.

In addition, he is not an actual clone of Cole Palmer! Despite being a promising prospect himself, he probably isn't as far along as Palmer was when he left for Chelsea.

While not expecting anything, it would be great if we actually got some early 'big' business done this window, for a change. Definitely need a right winger, striker and probably a right-sided central defender (who could possibly play as backup at right-back). Question is, who?

While it would be great the club was able to look at 3 in I think unless it's unknown bargains or us venturing into the loan market I feel it will be 1 in 1 out unless it's to pad the youth/development squad.

The Upturn in results unfortunately don't change this seasons financial predicament and while it may be opportunity lost to capitalise while the good feeling is back it's hardly possible based on what the club have been banging on about the last few months leading to this window.

Palmer was quite a mystifying sale, he looked class every time he played for Man City.

I remember Pep saying at some point that Palmer had been asking to leave for two years prior to that.

All these clubs that spend loads, but that also have good academies, usually end up not giving enough of their young talent opportunities to come through. They are very impatient.

Palmer, Lavia and Delap are serious talents that they let leave, and there will be plenty more to come.

We should be keeping a close eye on that continuously.

Next one - CJ Egan Riley at burnley. CB, loves a diag.

Our main priorities (in rank) are right wing, rcb and a striker.

If we went for a striker/right winger  (mbuemo) we could save ourselves a fair bit on a back up striker, having him and gordon for cover.

Can see some up and coming youngish talents instead of purples tbh....

If we could get a right sided forward such as Dibling/Bakayoko would be a huge boost for the remainder of the season.

I get the impression it’s wages where we’re sailing close to the wind on for PSR, if we could shift a couple off the wage bill it might give us room to do something.

Personally I'd give Krafth another year as a relatively low cost FB/CB cover. Particularly if Trips goes.

Definitely. He's proven a very capable deputy under Howe and can cover 2 positions we always seem to pick up injuries in

Kyle Walker-Peters is an absolute no brainer IMO.

If we have European football next year, we really need competent, versatile players who can step in. He could be cover to Hall and Livramento.

I always liked him as a youngster and I think hes been really unfortunate to have played for shite teams and managers.

Newcastle make Mooney move

According to The Sun, Newcastle United have approached St Mirren over the signing of young forward Evan Mooney.

Chief Football Writer Robert Grieve reports that Newcastle and Arsenal both made official approaches for the 17-year-old last night, signalling their interest in landing the teenager.

It’s believed neither club have launched a bid as of yet, but a formal approach has left the Scottish Premiership side braced for ‘serious bids’ as a number of top clubs track the striker who can also operate down the right.

Mooney has bagged a goal and an assist in just 61 minutes of league action for St Mirren this season, scoring in their 3-2 win over St Johnstone and coming off the bench to set up a stoppage time winner against Rangers on Boxing Day.
