NUFC Transfer Rumours

I said in the summer I’d take DCL on a free next summer, but on reflection I don’t think I would. He had that decent little patch under Ancelotti but been average at best since. Everton fans on their spaces always question his character too.

I hate to be debbie downer but in Eddie's press conference, not only did he hint that we wouldn't sign anyone this January but also that the summer wouldn't be a big one.

Again. This is the man that said he knew nothing about the Barnes deal or that it was close. Whilst I think Barnes was completing his medical at the time of the interview

Eddie isn't going to come out and say we've £100mil to spend so I don't know what people were expecting him to say.  Their tactic has always been - if the right player is available we'll go for it rather than compromising to getting someone who happens to be available just to make numbers. And let's be fair - it's worked very well - we've the best Defence, Midfield and striker in the league.

The thing with DCL (and I'm applying the same logic to Mbeumo) is, can we get as good or better for less elsewhere? On the face of it, he's a reasonable option because he's good enough to backup Isak but not so good that he'll get pissy being #2.

Unfortunately PSR is going to be a problem for us so we have two options, shop savvy or sell someone for a big fee. We have too many gaps in our squad to buy players for big fees and/or high wages and I think he may end up being the latter.

Eddie is gifted at improving players but not sure he could do that much with DCL. Then again, he knows best and if he wants him, there'll be a plan.

Seriously what do people like about DCL? He's 27 (so technically should be in his prime) and his goal scoring record is average at best.  Been woeful this season.

Gordon record was awful at Everton. Everton are literally a dog shit, defensive side where it must be pure aids to train and play for over past 4 seasons.

He’s shown in the past a good skill set, and as a back up option for no fee, it’s simple business.

Isak has made the striker position his own, so anyone wanting the spot we won’t get, so it needs to be a guy that’s happy for rotation and DCL at this stage in career, which may well come with UCL football would likely take that.

How do we develop Osula if we have DCL as our 2nd striker?

Surely next year Osula is more developed and better prepared to give some breaks to Isak

I previously liked the idea of DCL as it would give us another way of playing, and with everyone high pressing these days, it's important to have the option of going over the top. Plus, our 4-3-3 could morph into a 4-4-2 out of possession if Isak and him ever played together, Arsenal do it a lot and they seem to be the strongest team defensively

But he's supposedly a crap finisher which wouldn't cut it if we are aiming for CL places, as well as likely getting in the way of Osula

Oh well, let's never improve the squad because it may harm Osula's progression.

Oh nice! What are his goals and assists?

Well that’s a different argument isn’t it?

If you want to say you think he doesn’t score enough goals and generally isn’t good enough, I can at least see where you’re coming from.

However, if you’re saying his fitness record isn’t good enough, I’d disagree and say for the last season and a half it’s been better than virtually everyone in our squad bar maybe Bruno and Gordon (off the top of my head).

It may be a different argument, but it’s a canny good one!
