Pickford is much better with his feet. I'd argue Pope is better at everything else.

He's much more of a natural leader/organiser, as good a sweeper keeper, very good shot stopper. I'd have him despite the Mackem links.

No he is not.

All that shouting he does unsettles a defence. Pickford does not command his area because he's too small - inviting pressure on a defence. Nick Pope coming and plucking balls from the sky does so much to reduce pressure on our defence and act as a leader.

Pickford can be a ping a ball and is a good shot stopper. And to his credit, always turns up and performs for England. But he wouldn't be an improvement on Pope for us.

He's only 31, rarely injured. We could get him for a decent fee... but he wouldn't be an upgrade.

I watched him closely during the 1-1 when Dummett cost us and he was absolutely immense. Was constantly shouting over to Dyche about things he was picking up on in-game, organising the defence, all round it was one of the best keeping performances I've seen here. Could only dream of a keeper like that.

Nick Pope is better than Jordan Pickford though.

I don’t have a strong opinion there, but even if that is the case Trafford is also a full decade younger than Pope!

If he didn’t have his roots then I’d be all over Pickford - excellent keeper and the best I’ve seen with his feet - some  of his passing in the first half was unreal! The Mackem twat!

I think you’d be doing well to find a fan of anyone other than Newcastle that thinks Pickford isn’t a better keeper than Pope. It’s harsh because he’s an excellent traditional GK, just struggles with the ball at his feet.

Problem for Pope is that his weakness is such a massive issue in today’s game where the high press is so prevalent. And he’s not just bad with the ball at his feet, he’s horrendous. The keeper is supposed to be an easy outlet for players when trying to play out from the back, always there to reset if you get into bother. Our players don’t have that with Pope, which can lead to them making mistakes when they try something more difficult. You can also see when he comes out to sweep that he’s instructed to just hoof the ball into touch when there’s nothing easy on. It’s just giving up what should be our possession.

He's not awful with the ball at his feet mind. His passing is very good.

He really doesnt play much/at all short passes. In national team that is a clear problem, cause when the ball is played to Pickford he boots it up almost rightaway.

there are a lot better GK with the ball in EPL than Pickford. Lot worse too.

That's why Pickford is so good with his feet though, he's not trying to dink little cheeky through balls out to his right back more than he is hitting it long and flat trying to hit players in better positions.

Yea, but thing is usually the CB is the favourite to win long balls. Beto is so strong he can actually win those. Long balls to Isak are not a good tactic
