STM Posted Sunday at 16:58 Share Posted Sunday at 16:58 Just now, Pilko said: I think £60m for Mbuemo is about right, depends if we're able to balance that with the other signings we need to make from the overall budget though. No good if we still don't get a centre back or a keeper. Id be absolutely flabbergasted if we don't have the funds to, at least, get a quality CB and RW. Beyond that, yes we might have to start shifting a couple but we are more than capable of that.

kingxlnc Posted Sunday at 17:04 Share Posted Sunday at 17:04 It’s just that we got Tonali for 55m and Isak for 63m. 60m in theory given our track record should get us that type of player. Mbuemo is a Gordon or Barnes level player so 45m max feels right. Of course sometimes you have to overpay etc but just makes you think what else would be possible for that kind of cash. We signed Gordon for 45m. We wouldn't sell Gordon for less than 70 now. If Gordon or Barnes put in Mbeumo numbers, they'd be worth 100m. Absolutely incredible how many people don't realise how good Mbeumo actually is. For 60m we not only have an elite RW but we'd have one helluva back up striker for when Isak needs a rest. STM Posted Sunday at 17:16 Share Posted Sunday at 17:16 Again it seems to be coming back to this idea that we want to sell Mbuemo down the line. How about we sign him, get 6/8 years out of him, win shit loads of stuff, get consistent CL football and not worry about the fee we get for him when he's in his 30s. We aren't Brighton or Brentford. I wonder if Liverpool fans are kicking off because they won't get a big fee for Wirtz after winning their fucking 30th PL title or whatever.

STM Posted Sunday at 17:22 Share Posted Sunday at 17:22 Also Mbuemo Gordon Murphy Or Gordon Barnes Mbeumo Is a massive upgrade on Wilson Gordon Murphy Which is what we've been dealing with in a Isak absence. Mbeumo guarantees goals and assists when he's on the pitch. On paper we'd have one of the top 2/3 front 3s in the league if we sign Mbeumo, that's to go with one of the top 2/3 midfields in the league.... STM Posted Sunday at 17:24 Share Posted Sunday at 17:24 38 matches, 20 goals, 7 assists. I reckon Salah would have been happy with that at the start of the season. 60m? No thanks.
Andy84 Posted Sunday at 17:26 Share Posted Sunday at 17:26 (edited) Heard a comparison with Mbeumo to Mane the other day. Mbeumo is a similar age putting up similar numbers as he was before Liverpool. He transforms us imo. We’ve paid this sort of fee before and we really need to do it again. As long as Brentford don’t go all Parish on us and are willing to sell, just get it done Edited Sunday at 17:27 by Andy84

We absolutely kill teams on the transition with him in our side. He should be our number 1 target. Not to be a debby downer but I don't think we will get him. I'd be stunned if the usual hawks like Chelsea/Man United or even Arsenal don't get him, if for no other reason than to stop us from getting him. We didn't have as many different goalscorers as 22/23 last season but had 5 separate players on 10+ goal contributions, with Isak and Murph contributing 49 on their own. If we sure up the defence by signing a CB, midfielder and to a lesser extent (IMO) a goalkeeper then we are cooking. It's only really the financial outlay that's up for discussion isn't it? If we go big on him, a CB and another £20m+ on a keeper are we then scrabbling around the bargain bin for any other signings? As good as he is we'd still be buggered if Tonali does his ACL or Isak is out for a prolonged period. The issue in 23/24 was not having the numbers to perform on multiple fronts - players have to play more minutes, more injuries pile up and on it goes. tarie4 Posted Sunday at 17:55 Share Posted Sunday at 17:55 We're not getting a new central midfielder unless we offload one, okay? Same with the goalie. Otherwise, we're staked in those positions. So, we gotta sell Longstaff or Willock for a new CM, and Dubs or Pope for a new keeper. So I don't see why we shouldn't just grab top-quality players where we really need them – RW and RCB. Then, we can buy more as we sell to upgrade other positions. We've needed a quality RW for three seasons now, let's not mess around like Arsenal did in the striker search.
