I'm going to have to go on a Youtube hunt for a "how to beat a low block" tactics video.

As an old man, I hope its "put a big man up front and stick it in the mixer"

We could sign Maguire. Cover at CB and CF.

How many times did we lose or drop points to a legit low block last season? And how many times did we drop points or lose for other reasons (didn’t take chances, errors, etc)?

I also just think ultra defensive tactics are just fundamentally difficult to play through. That’s why crap teams use them. There’s not a signing or two that’s going to let us slice and dice low blocks. Even Man City struggle with them.

Last game against Everton was a pretty good example wasn't it?

Other than that I haven't been keeping notes. Just a general memory of us looking kinda clueless against it.

Surely there are some type of players that are better against it than others though.

Im thinking players with tricky feets in small spaces and a killer pass/shot. Messi being a pretty good example ;)

Scott Carson has all of those honours except for the Villa ones...

Scott Carson hasn't contributed by making over 150 appearances for the most successful side in the league over the last 10 years.

I wonder if City are activating that Trafford clause, even just to sell him on for a few quid.

They're signing Trafford?

I presume we are getting very little news until closer to July 1. My guess would be we'll want to book costs for new signings in the next financial year, allowing the current financial year to end in a profit (or at least low level loss).

Yeah of course. I suppose I mean that we might not sign players who we don’t think are a good fit for our ‘normal’ way of playing, just because they might make us a bit better against deep defences.

Wasny he injured more or less the whole time he played in England?

Think that plus fact he’s not played in 5 years were fuel for the ironic comment

I don't think it's as simple as that. You are always going to miss chances in every game, there's no team that is guaranteed to take every one. It's more that when you are struggling to make chances, those are the games - like Everton - where you just know they will go up the other end and score.

Hope it is. My main assertion is that vs a low block you mainly want wingers to get to the byline and drill it into the box and cause some chaos.

Madueke style over substance tekkers.

Elanga is a better finisher, crosser, set piece taker.

Madueke is a YouTube compilation player with no work-rate, consistency or reliable end-product. When he’s on though he looks really good.

His issue is, and I could be wrong here, is he also comes across as someone who thinks he’s already made it; players with his kind of attitude/mentality don’t tend to get much better.

A few reports have suggested he has a poor attitude as well.
