NUFC Transfer Rumours

Definitely it should be. I haven't heard us linked to any outstanding first choice GKs yet though, unless I've missed something. Which tbf is very possible since I'm not checking this thread regularly.

Dont think we will buy anyone outstanding, that will take up a big chunk of the budget. Will hopefully be someone up and coming like Risser, and not a premium average Verbruggen. Kobel has been linked but not sure how realistic he is.

Agree.

I would be over the moon if we got 5 or 6 £15-20m prospects that can fit into the first team squad, and a couple of £30-40m purples

That would be my ideal situation. And it seems to be the common sense solution.

But isn't it widely acknowledged Eddie likes a compact 1st team squad? Don't know if he's said it outright but I've definitely heard it quite a bit over the last few windows

Goalkeeper situation is probably priority number one for me this summer. Regardless of any other incoming or outgoing, if we don't repair that position we will achieve nothing next season.

I think we could do without having to sign two goalkeepers though, so ideally Pope stays and becomes second choice. However, if there's an appealing sale to be made and Pope wants to leave, I wouldn't be wildly against keeping Ramsdale providing the terms were right.

I don't rate him particularly highly but how high should our expectations actually be of a backup goalie? We can't realistically expect to have two brilliant keepers, surely?

It also doesn't mean that much in **checks notes** the month of May.

I am sure it's a position they will want to target pretty aggressively.

If we have a big enough budget, I am sure we would love to buy a really outstanding GK. But not sure there are that many around, or that we will be able to land them.

James Trafford seems to be the only other serious link, but latest rumours are that Villa will be in for him. They might be better placed considering the season they've had compared to ours.

You could say that about almost every position we are after. By all reports we are going for potential this summer.

Agree, and might just be reading into what EH said on friday, but wouldn't rule it out.

I'd prefer if we bought players because they're good at football rather than them being a nice lad with a positive attitude.

Ramsdale will probably cost whatever we brought in for Pope, plus his wages are 100k+. I can’t see a way in which it makes sense.

If Pope wanted to leave I would tell him next summer.

We could easily get a 10m keeper from Europe as a backup who’d be better value for money than Ramsdale.

Agreed. I don’t think we should underestimate how much an impact it has on team confidence having a dodgy keeper has. Everyone drops back 10 yards plus struggle to hang on to wins… regardless of anything else, securing a solid keeper must be number 1 priority.

We finish top 8 this season with a good GK. Probably get top 5 if you add a good striker. That's even with all the other problems we've had.

This just discounts all of the listless performances no? The points tally is just one of a few issues imo.

Yeah even if we achieved those things it would be papering over the long term cracks which would eventually rear it's ugly head IMO.
