Tosin and Kelly just seem perfect this summer. Patches up the Lascelles & Botman injuries this season, frees us up a bit for FFP this summer and replaces Schar & Burn ready for 25/6.

I'd be happy for us to wait until next summer for the "big" CB signing to partner Botman if we get those two.

Absolutely this, I’ve already lamented us missing out on Kamara when Villa got him for free, let’s not repeat such mistakes this summer.

Agree, particularly as I think they’ll spend big on a RW and a fair chunk on another striker.

We're likely going to need 3 new centre-backs over the next season or two to replace Lascelles, Burn and Schar due to ability/age. They can't all be £40-50m players. If you can get two good free signings now, both a good age, it opens up nicely for next summer.

I really think it'll be GK and RW being the main ones. Can see us keeping Wilson for his last year.

Why don't players pay their agent ?

Mental isn’t it. Have an agent to protect your interests (aka screw every penny possible out of your employer and use your profile to wring money out of every possible company) and the club have to pay. They also don’t pay their own union fees 🤷‍♂️

£60m for Ramsdale? Fuck that.

You could get any keeper on the continent outside of Donnarruma for that kind of wedge.

I don't see Ramsdale as likely due to cost and timing. Cost has been discussed but the timing of this signing would be off. He's very similar to Pope in terms of overall quality so if he came in he wouldn't and shouldn't be a guaranteed starter but at his age he would expect to be. Pope likewise can expect to be the number 1 for at least another season. It just doesn't line up.

Much more likely is a highly rated 21 year old where a more natural transition can happen over the next 2 seasons.

Of course if Pope has buggered his shoulder then that would change things.

Feel like there was a few younger keepers mentioned in twitter feed and feels like that's what we need a younger keeper to deputise for Pope next season with view they step up year after. Wouldn't spunk anywhere near 60 million on Ramsdale.

Aaron Ramsdale has openly admitted he can’t concentrate during games, why on earth would anybody go near him

Plus the fact that he’s not better than Pope at anything. Other than his distribution.

We have loads of areas of need ahead of first choice keeper. When we replace Pope, it would be nice to get a genuine upgrade and hopefully one that doesn’t cost the earth.

I suppose if the medical staff (no laughing) have concerns over Pope’s shoulder. Then it might force our hand this summer.

We need to sign a more suitable backup to replace Dubs and Karius, anyway. So we might luck out with a cheap option who ends up being a future number one.

Pope has injured his shoulder twice, so there's bound to be a vulnerability there. His fitness can't be relied on, and if we bring someone in, we may as well make it worthwhile and go for someone better if possible. Pope is a decent keeper but isn't good with the ball at his feet, and of course more is expected of keepers in that area now.

Ramsdale hasn't fulfilled his earlier promise, but we've made a bit of a success of this sort of signing - ie a talented player whose career has taken a bit of dip. I'm thinking of Gordon and Isak here. Such players don't attract so much interest from the bigger clubs, and they become viable targets for us. Eddie has shown his ability to get more from players, particularly when it comes to boosting their confidence.

If we have the budget, ie we keep Bruno and Isak add Kelly and Tosin and a RW I’d be definitely looking to upgrade Pope.

Pope is a fantastic keeper but he’s a bit of liability with the ball at his feet.

Still think Pope is actually world class at keeping. Obviously it's absolutely terrifying when anyone passes to him, hell I can barely watch when he's taking a goal kick, but for the most part he recognises his limitations and doesn't try what he can't do.

Assuming his durability's ok I think it'll be hard to upgrade him directly without spending a lot of money, which is then money that can't be spent on buying another lovely, lovely footballer in a different position.

Kamara’s on £150k a week like. Difficult for us to compete with that now, let alone back then.

Eh not really given Villa managed it in Less revenue than us. Also, would have allowed us to dodge Tonali who, when you are in his fee and his wage is costing us twice as much.

It isn't the fact we can't afford £150k a week. It is the fact that if you give Kamara or someone similar £150k a week then the likes of Bruno, Isak, Joelinton, Botman etc. would then all be wanting more than £150k a week as they are the established stars of the team. You can't just go around throwing wages at players that would make them the top earners without potentially upsetting others.

Err, you realise Bruno and Joe have got new contracts right? Bruno is definitely on more than that and Tonali is probably on about what Kamara is on.

and again, Villa have paid it with seemingly no issues, ultimately the salary is well below what other top 6 teams are paying.

Then he’d be missing a trick, imo.

Anyways the original point which I’ll get back to is, Tosin and Kelly are no brainer.

No i agree with the point your making its a no brainer, just saying in Kamara its just as likely he wasnt our priority.

Ramsdale is only 25, he'll be a much better keeper by the time he's Nick Pope's current age imo. I think he gets overly criticised on here for whatever reason. He's a solid keeper.

Im not sure this is required.

Howe has continuously said his philosophy is to progress the ball as fast as possible.

Even in the last Ovelap interview he alluded the fact that although he admires City/Arsenal, he cant see us playing that way.

Personally, I would much rather have a shot stopper who kept clean sheets vs Ramsdale

In offer to progress the ball up the field the ball needs to remain in play and not out for a throw in. The second pope is pressed he usually punts it either long or out of play.

He’s amongst the best shot stoppers but amongst the worst with the ball at his feet in the league.
