NUFC Transfer Rumours

Obscene that we can go 12 months investing next to nowt and still be up against it PSR-wise. It's not like we went mental with the spending after the takeover.

All thanks to Mike Ashley's horrendous mismanagement of the commercial side of things.

We should have been keeping a much closer eye on things year on year regarding PSR headroom, and been very careful about the decisions we made regarding incomings.

Seems we weren't quite on top of things to the extent we needed to be.

We have near enough effectively sold nothing though till this summer.

Need to at least churn out a few sales each summer. 22/23, 21/22, 20/21 like £10m max made on transfer outgoings :D Then 23/24, helped out by flipping Wood back out and ASM to Ah Ahli.

Still in same situation now where we have fuck all to move on for any cash, unless we move on someone who’s on fringes and has value (Barnes) or a main starter.

Need revenues to grow and to unearth some more Minteh to able to maintain what we did 21/22 to 23/24.

For all of Ashley tightness, it’s still amazing how shit he ran a steady prem club that could’ve easily sweeped up the youngster market and sold every summer for profits. Just a depressingly incompetent owner, as that should’ve been an easy thing for him.

He didn’t even need to do anything, just hire a couple of people.

Again not smart enough to argue with this but spending 400 million+ and bring in less than 50m when losses need to be below 105 I can see why things continue to be tight as the bigger purchases still cost us money year on year from an accountancy point of view.

The lack of player trading or having any sort of saleable assets really continue to hurt us and it's only getting worse due to the age of some of the players getting 1 year extensions will eventually go for free. These players will need to be replaced and if it doesn't come from our academy then it's all outlay with nothing coming  back the other way.

Definitely of the view this is unfair when Chelsea get to spend 1B and don't seem to be slowing down yet.

Probably holding onto players a bit too long to the point where they arnt worth selling so might aswell keep them around and give them a +1

Agreed about the sentiment the ship has sailed for alot of them i.e. schar or BDB don't hold alot of value due to age and contract length but are good squad players and still can contribute.

Still doesn't mean your not kicking the can down the road and once they tip into the realm of cheerleader status like Dummett got and just take up a squad place you then spend money on replacements. Not saying that either of those players are coming to that stage yet but it's will be on the horizon.  Will hamper our progress somewhat as we look to replace these sort of players who may at that stage are bit part players which reduces the budget for the ready made first 11 additions.

I guess you have to trust the club are well aware of this approach and have a plan.

Aye total false economy. If he’d sorted out some infrastructure he could have spent even less net than he allowed the club to.

Yeah it’s a complete farce. I’m definitely of the opinion that we shouldn’t just sign anybody in January. However, I think it’s really important we bolster the squad to push on in what could be a really important season in terms of where our players go from here re Europe etc.

We should never just sign anyone for the sake of it. I'm more than happy to see us sign nobody over bringing in poor squad players just to say we've signed someone. When I think about some of the shite we've been stuck with over the years, good god...

I do get it and the club have already sowed that seed of difficult window/downturn in numbers of moves etc however if we go through Jan and not sign anyone of note we haven't upgraded the 1st 11 in 3 transfer windows which at best is stagnating.

With the loss of kraft/unknown if trips stays/ if botman comes back firing etc we are a schar injury or suspension away from needing a kid in his place. I would rather wait for the right player to come along that fits medium to long term but hope the club have had now plenty of time to prepare for the window.

If miggy does leave or trips I think that's 2 positions we need to buy to replace as well.

Think there will be a big refresh this Jan/summer

Trips, Wilson, Almiron, Lascelles, Targett, Dubravka will all leave for sure.

That's a lot of wages and first team space.

Can see four big first teamers come in plus James Trafford.

A ST, RW, RCB for sure, and perhaps DM

Said it before though, signings are not JUST about improving the squad. Obviously that's the primary objective but they also give existing players a lift, give us a new dimension that teams have to adapt to, and signal intent. I'm not suggesting we should just sign any old shit but signing a player with a high profile who doesn't necessarily 100% fit our blueprint would be a tactical move worth making, over signing no one at all.

I like your optimism and maybe a big influx is coming due to the number out of contract but of those listed only 3 at best we get fees for. We won't have the budget to replace them all in one go with quality. I guess giving extensions to some gives us a chance for the youth lads we have brought in to come good or get sold for profits it's a hard balancing act.

This is spot on in terms of needs for me. After that it's really about seeing some of our youth signings and academy start delivering to bolster the squad. We can afford to be doing big spending sprees so I'm hoping we get lucky with a few youngest coming through to help.

I think the current plan is to trust the squad we've got will get us into Europe since most of the players we would like to sell aren't really attracting any buyers unless it's negative PSR value. We'll be adopting the Brighton/Palace model of bringing in young talent and hoping we strike it rich ongoing, and that will be Mitchell's remit.

Feel like we have been saying this the last couple of summer windows tbh.

Issue is we got a tune out of players thought no longer good enough or bought older age profile players or kept hold of players as they aged.

We aren't still at the stage where the first team just needs one quality edition each window to keep the squad fresh. We still need rebuilding either be in first 11 or the overall squad as a whole.

Hard to be critical alot of issues stem from people not wanting to buy our players or PSR and has brought us relative to what we were massive success. Just feel like the next step/chapter is alot more difficult to navigate than the initial step after survival.

I think we would LIKE to have a big refresh in the summer, but the same will be true for next summer as the past couple. PSR will stop us making any really big moves unless we end up selling a purple. At the moment it doesn't even look like associated party sponsorships is going to allow that much more headroom.

Even a positive rule change to increase possible allowances or allow us a bumper stadium/training kit and training ground sponsor the money is a boost say it was somehow worth 100m more combined it would still be short term wealth. Especially if we bought more in the 40/50/60m bracket as they have a cost to your books year on year.

Unless it completely goes away we just need to be smarter and like had been mentioned the Mitchell approach may well aid that more sustainable cycle type approach.
