NUFC Transfer Rumours

Should we really be clearing out the likes of Targett, Kelly and Longstaff? Unless we're brining in direct replacements who improve on these, we need these squad players for cover and early round cup games. It's not like our squad is well padded out.

Id keep Targett currently as backup LB. If they got a proper offer for Kelly this window I think they let him go. We have 2 left sided CBs and Krafth can fill in at right CB.

Doesn’t the 3 year (105m limit) finish this June or whatever? From my understanding we should have a lot more room for spending in the summer.

I thought any additional spending risks breaching the new 70% squad cost rule? So incomings must be funded by outgoings until we grow revenue.

Deloitte's have us estimated at 68% wages to revenue currently, new scheme caps (if we qualify for Europe) at 70% but has to include amortisation costs and agent fees minus allowables & player sales.  Unless we get another significant jump in our revenue we could be worse off under the new scheme

This isn't a criticism but I wonder if we're leaking players we would've liked to have gone for to stave off criticism of us doing nothing this January and ram home the PSR issue. There's still plenty of people who don't get it and will assume the club staff are just taking the piss unless there are concrete signings.

Main conversation should be squad cost rules now surely? If and when our 3 year rolling PSR period improves, squad cost limits means we either have to grow revenue or sell players before we bring anyone in. Profit and losses are irrelevant.

And that assumes pay for our purples remains static. If Isak, Bruno and Tonali demand an extra 200K per week between them, we almost certainly can't afford to grow the squad.

Man City did us out of three CBs in one window? :undecided: Sickna that. At least it bodes well for our scouting I suppose

Except it means we are effectively scouting for Man City.

How can PSR block a bid?

We know how much we can spend, it's not like we file off a £30m bid for a player and have to wait for PSR approval.

Like @80 says it sounds like we're trying to highlight how preposterous the rules are. Only a few clubs are allowed to sign players.

Well we didn't know how much we could spend a month ago. If we had sold Kelly, Targett or a purple we would have more flexibility. You don't just start lining up targets after a sale - you have to be ready to pull the trigger once you have PSR wriggle room.

Sorry, I don’t believe it. We have the Guehi  budget, or we can structure a deferred deal like the Hall one if we want to. We aren’t THAT close to the ceiling, even unable to offer 30m for a position we badly need reinforcement.

These stories don’t feel right to me.  I hope it’s just bollocks from lazy journalism. If that’s genuinely sourced from the club then it does smell like bullshit expectation managmenet

Not really. Word is (and was back in the Summer) that signing Guehi would have meant a big departure at some point before the June 30th 2025 PSR deadline. We didn't get Guehi so we will never know, but if we had it could have left us more vunerable to bids for Isak, Bruno, Tonali, etc.

But either the players are worth it or they aren't, there's no reason to wait on signing a CB, we offered over £50m for Guehi. The issue is that teams like Man City and Chelsea are just allowed to do what they like even when they're being taken to court apparently.

that alone deserves sacking. Guehi in exchange of Isak/Gordon/Bruno? What kinda suicidal plan is that?

What you have to ask yourself is, do you think someone like this Brazilian kid would have enough of an immediate impact between now and the end of the season to justify weakening our summer position in return for that impact?

Maybe he would, maybe he wouldn’t - I’d be inclined to lean towards the latter - so they decided not to pull the trigger.

However, I don’t doubt if something happened to Isak, or someone we felt confident would have an immediate impact became available, we could slap £30m down tomorrow.

And after failed/played by CP multiple times, we tried desperate enquiries re Tapsoba and Elanga.

No fucking way we can’t structure a deal for that Brazilian CB if we wanted to. It’s not like the club only allows to negotiate and submit bid after 1 Jan. Mitchell can do it at Sep Oct Nov and Dec if he wanted to.

That’s fine, that’s actually the narrative for the last summer: the club only wants to sign someone good enough for starting eleven and lift the team to the next level, hence “only EPL established” expensive purchases.

Not the bullshit from the nufcblog “eh the club in fact wanted to complete the deal for the Brazilian CB but sorry due to PSR the club is blocked from doing so, and therefore the club wants to do it in Jan instead but unfortunately being hijacked by Man City, so sorry about that”

fucking bullshit
