Then on top of that you need to build a skeleton squad - CB, LB, CM, CF effectively replacing Lascelles - Targett - Longstaff - Wilson with better quality See how Alex Murphy gets on - could be added to 25/26 Summer 25 is the rebuild summer - no pissing about this time
LFEE Posted Tuesday at 14:03 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:03 54 minutes ago, Fak said: Newcastle will not allow their best players to leave if they miss out on the Champions League this season, sending a clear and robust message to rival clubs, intermediaries and their own dressing-room. After a run of three defeats in four Premier League games, Eddie Howe’s side have fallen out of the top five places that will qualify for Europe’s top competition. This has given rise to fresh talk in football circles of interest in the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes. However, because the club will enter the summer in a strong position from a PSR perspective and have all of their most valuable players on long-term contracts, there is no appetite or need to let any of them leave, should they ask to do so. Rather, it is the wish and intention of the club to keep the bulk of the squad together and add to it before next season, regardless of whether they are playing European football. For any players who have an ambition to play in the Champions League, the message is clear - you’ll have to earn it here. The club’s hierarchy have been left frustrated by a drop-off in performance during recent league defeats by Bournemouth, Fulham and Manchester City, especially when the same players produced a herculean effort over two legs of their Carabao Cup semi-final versus Arsenal, resulting in a 4-0 aggregate victory. Howe will no doubt let his players know that anyone with one eye on the final against Liverpool on March 16 risks losing their place in the team. With Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes returning to fitness and Sven Botman and Joelinton due back in the coming weeks, Howe will likely have more options than he currently has come the Wembley date. In the meantime, there are four league games that will go a long way to determining whether Newcastle can recover their top-five position, which they sit two places and two points beyond. Securing a Champions League return would go a long way to placating those stars who Howe admits were ‘unsettled’ by goings on at the club last summer, when young talents such as Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were sold to satisfy a PSR deficit. Popular co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi left the club amid a boardroom power struggle. Now, after three transfer windows without a first-team signing and several exits weakening the squad, as well as no tangible progress in three years of Saudi ownership on a new stadium or training ground, questions continue to be asked in the dressing-room over the direction of the club and its speed of travel. But with announcements due on those off-field projects and the club having endured what Howe calls ‘short-term pain for long-term gain’ with regards their transfer activity, there is an anticipation that this summer will signal a period of renewed ambition. That is why the club will resist any attempt to sign their top stars and will let it be known they expect them to be part of an effort to qualify once more for the Champions League, be that this season or beyond. What I’ve been saying. None of our big players will leave this summer regardless where we finish. The journey for regular UCL begins 25/26. Anything we achieve this season a bonus. kingxlnc Posted Tuesday at 14:06 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:06 This is the first round of proper renewal - the first team Howe built has come to an end. The spine that first season initially was Pope, Trippier, Schar, Joelinton and Wilson. The stalwarts of that team - Almiron, Targett, Longstaff, Wilson, Willock, Trippier, Schar, Pope/Dubravka, Burn - their time is up, especially as starters. The second round of the team, is built on a even stronger spine of Botman, Tonali, Bruno, Gordon and Isak. Hall, Miley and Tino also very strong young players to add. Anderson and Minteh would have really been useful but hey ho. There are good support players we have such as Barnes, Murphy - but there's a whole lot of depth that is missing. Honestly, if we did a Forest and bought 10 players this summer I wouldn't even be mad, we really do need a full rebuild and refresh in that sense. I'd want them to try and challenge for the title next season - especially with that spine all entering their peak.

But nothing has changed, we need to be CL regulars and paying top wages to keep the really top players beyond the next year or two. Might be the rules easing on APT sponsorship will help there. Best of luck with that. Liverpool will likely win the league then spend £200m+ Arsenal will surely buy a proper elite striker (unfortunately one inferior to Isak but hey ho) As well as Man City and Chelsea continuing to chuck millions and billions at it. That’s before considering Man Utd and/or Spurs might stop being shite (alright that’s an iffy one). To finish above ALL of them would bordering on the impossible. Yes the APT easing will definitely help. Lot of pressure on getting the right signings this summer to achieve top 4 (or 5 if it counts also). Expecting the club to do this and show its 1st team ambitions to the current purples following on from announcing a new ground hopefully which allay any fears from the fans about the long term. Osula stays as 3rd choice striker and RW option - up to him to forge a career at NUFC - nothing should be handed to him Essentially we need 6 CMs - 4 of them should be Sandro - Bruno - Miley - plus 1 (replacement for Longstaff) - then Big Joe plus 1 (this is currently Willock, although I am losing patience with him)

KaKa Posted Tuesday at 14:44 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:44 (edited) Interesting article. The club sounds confident of making moves this summer without needing to sell our main guys. The PSR know it alls have been adamant we would not be able to do so without selling key players, and so very much looking forward to how the summer plays out. Slots professional and tactical flexibility is a large part in why he was hired. He was going to come in and work with what he’s given with a smile on his face. He’s not ostracised a single player. Big clubs are moving away from the Mourinho and Conte personality types who demand a certain specialist profile of player or unduly ostracise capable players for stylistic reasons. I heard that was a major reason Liverpool didn’t go for Amorim. He’s married to 5 at the back. Edited Tuesday at 14:58 by The College Dropout

Before this we actually were prevented by PSR from investing in our squad, but this opens up a very realistic avenue to sink some money into securing our current superstars at least. Those who were insisting we shouldn't support Man City's fight against the cartel were wrong. This is our fight as well.
