NUFC Transfer Rumours

I honestly feel you, man. It has been a shit show  up to this point. But I do have some not so unfounded optimism because of who is at the helm. Could well be like 23/24 or worse,  but Howe is capable of pulling off miracles. If he starts getting fed up, then that’s another story.

I think we're already past the point of Howe being fed up with this shit tbh, just based on what a couple of local journos have said off the record.

Encouraging but also how am I going to make it to the end?

Hardly encouraging like.

5 weeks to sign 3 minimum when we’ve made 1 in the last two years.

A couple of local journos off the record. To someone I know, who told me. "Chaos behind the scenes", "Howe is raging"

I really think we're completely sleepwalking on a major CB crisis and the succession planning is awful there.

Botman cannot be relied upon physically. Burn and Schar are 33 and probably have one season left in them. Krafth and Lascelles also past 30 and are not up to it.

We need 2 CB signings in the next 12 months. If you can't get a 'top' target then you need to get one from a shelf down anyway and go for more of a punt on potential because we're going to need more anyway very soon.

Same with CM to be honest. Willock has offered nothing for 2 years and is lacking durability to say the very least if the past is to be used as a predictive measure. You lose him and you're left with Miley to support an entire midfield three in a potentially 60+ game season. Insane.

I'd make the case that a new CM is as important, if not more than a CB given the demands of that position and increased likelihood of injury/fatigue.

Be interesting to find out what he thinks could/should have been done differently. Higher fees, wages etc and what his input was ?

I’d presume actually having employees in place so he doesn’t have to moonlight with three hats on.

I think the club wanted to have a real go at the CL and this is reflected in the players we were going for (and why we didn’t go for ‘diamonds in the rough’, which take time to polish).

But PSR has woven its ‘magic’ and done exactly what it was designed to do. The result is that we will probably need to lower our expectations this season and sign some of these lower quality players with potential to have the necessary numbers to get through the season.

Well yeah but I'm assuming that this pure time logic is not what's going to decide it

Lets hope we get the players in. The club has achieved great things since the takeover but it’s not unfair to point out the shortcomings.

Sesko, Wissa and a CB would resurrect the window and the squad would look very good. But I question our approach, scouting (or lack of trust in scouting), and the lack of an alternative voice to the manager.

Are you genuinely confident we'll get those 4/5 in?

Confidence level varies, 100% we’ll have two strikers (as well as Osula, Neave etc). If I had to pick a number then, 70% certain we’ll add CB, CM, and GK to that.

Aren't Nickson and Andy doing that. As Eddie is part of the transfer committee (possibly the largest voice on it) you'd guess he'd be aware of the parameters on each deal.

I think the keeper is less likely, ours number 1 target has gone so we'll stick with Pope/Dubravka

I agree can't knock them for trying but we dont seem to be dynamic or pivot quick enough this may well be down to what's happened at executive level but still won't help understanding why things have gone wrong if it still leaves it as a poor window.

But Nickson and Andy Howe aren’t the right skill set to be doing that, apologies that’s the point I’m trying to make. Eddie should be left to do what he does best without having to deal with an underpowered recruitment and negotiation team.

Do other clubs have a super negotiator who can sweet talk clubs into knocking 20% off and players into accepting 100kpw less ?

I think the kids call it aura.

Fuck all. From his own words there's a very small pool of players we are interested in, if the cartel clubs are also chasing them, then it's living in cloud cuckoo land to expect to land those players on less wages and with less pull than the glamour clubs.

Only way to do it is to blow them out of the water by kicking PSR to the curb. Is that realistic?

It seems we target a group of players then if they don’t sign then it’s back to square one. I’d love to know how far Mitchell got in talking to prospective signings’ agents and developing an in depth transfer plan. Not far by the looks of it.

If, as I suspect, there is an underlying reluctance for other PL teams to do business with us, we really need to look abroad.

How do you know that?
