Impossible to say really, but how often can you put your first eleven out? There used to be a huge drop off everywhere except LW. Elanga improves us (hopefully), Thiaw shouldn't be much of a drop off than Schar, Ramsay shouldn't be much of a drop off from Joelinton and Wissa and Woltemade give us plenty of options up front either individually or as a pair. Would also like to see Ramsdale come in for Pope.
r0cafella
Squad has obviously improved, we will have spent a quarter of a billion.
ponsaelius
We're definitely in a much better place in terms of the 'first 18' even if there has perhaps been a drop off in terms of what would constitute first choice 11. With the fixtures clubs have these days in Europe, the former is probably more important than the latter (IMO). Some of that is because we have a very good first 11 and the player we have lost is incredibly hard to improve upon.
TRon
Feels like we are judging this window harshly on the back of playing three games without a striker. Once we get to see us with a proper team out there, we will probably feel a lot more positive about it. We've lost a world class striker but replaced him with two very good ones and some other key positions strengthened. It might turn out to have been a great window. Yes he has but having a goalkeeper that can play the ball out with his feet will bring our game on even more, same as getting Botman back in for Burn as soon as he is fully fit and then eventually replacing Joelinton in some games where we need to keep the ball better. It is the area of the game where we need to improve the most and having a goalkeeper that is confident on the ball could have a huge impact. Last season even having that spell with Dubravka you could see the difference in that aspect of our game and we went on a very good run and he isn't even that good with his feet. I like Pope but we need to progress as a team.

A great window and some actual options for once. Let's move on from the Isak shit show! If we combine the 2024+2025 transfer windows things would look a bit more complicated Dubravka to Ramsdale = upgrade none to Thiaw = upgrade Anderson+Longstaff to Ramsey = ? Minteh+Almiron to Elanga = ? Wilson to Wissa+Osula = upgrade Isak to Woltemade = downgrade but who knows how good he could become. I didn't include Hall in the list because he was technically signed in 2023, we just paid the money in 2024.

Anderson is a big miss but would probably not be the player he is now if he stayed put, the move was good for him, but yes I get your point. I was using Kelly and Almiron as examples because they were part of the team that actually played last season and were not replaced in January so I view Thiaw and Elanga as their replacements six months later. If only we could have Minteh and Anderson now with what we already have, then we would be looking strong!
Shearergol
I'm gonna take some convincing that Almiron to Elanga is an upgrade
Erikse
Would have been amazing if we got a surprise signing of midfielder today aswell, just for the sake of depth. I doubt it though. Edited September 1, 2025 by Erikse
aussiemag
Yeh I feel we are still lacking a Ben Arfa type flair player that can dribble past players, play a killer pass or pop up with long distance screamer.

Have you seen some of Wissa's goals from last season? There's a fair few rockets from outside the area.

Sibierski
I feel we need a full back by end of window. But I guess Krafth is viewed as the short term gap to end of season.
