NUFC Transfer Rumours

Recommended Posts

Man City are apparently willing to make James Trafford, Juma Bah, Rico Lewis and Issa Kabore available as part of any deals for Tonali and Tino. Swap deals aren't really a thing and so I'm sure deals for any of these would be done separately.

Trafford we clearly like a lot and Juma Bah was the other young centre back we were looking at along with Khusanov, before Man City steamed in and signed both. Not sure we'd look at Rico Lewis as he's more of an inverted full back and is quite small for an Eddie side. Kabore is a right back that has been on loan at Wrexham and haven't seen much of him there, but remember him being on loan at Luton, and he's more of the profile of right back that Howe would sign and could serve as a backup in that position either for Tino if he stays or for whoever replaces him.

I think provided we get paid full value for Tonali and/or Tino and get very fair deals on any players that Newcastle like then probably not a bad idea tbh.

I think man City is the only club in England that players moving to is somewhat bearable. Man United fans ae so irritating and are already running off at the mouth about how they're going to sign seemingly every Newcastle player, I would love for them to end up with none.

Newcastle United retain an interest in signing James Trafford, 23, if the England goalkeeper decides to leave Manchester City in search of regular first-team football in the summer. (Football Insider, external)

Meanwhile, City are prepared to offer the Magpies a selection of players to help facilitate a potential deal for Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali, 25. (Teamtalk, external)

It's a complete non-starter because of UEFA's rules on what they consider swap deals. Any transfer within a window between two clubs can be considered a swap and the values adjusted accordingly. Villa reportedly had an interest in Osula in summer transfer window but had to back off the deal because they realised purchasing him would result in the profit from the Ramsey deal being erased in the UEFA calculation.

I suspect we'd like to do a deal for Trafford but it won't happen because of the Tino situation i.e. we won't be able to buy him from City because that's where Tino wants to go, and we need to sell Tino this summer because he has only two years left on his contract and therefore holds all the cards.

This is so crazy ...

So even if a club isn't trying to do a swap deal to manipulate the rules as was the case before, but are instead genuinely interested in players from another club that has bought one of theirs, they essentially get punished anyway! Absolutely ridiculous stuff.

Would it be more feasible if Newcastle aren't in Europe next season?

Problem is, doesn't UEFA have some stupid rule for when two clubs buy players from each other in the same window? I think you can only claim the book value of the player for PSR purposes in that situation. So, it's pretty much impossible for a club like us to trade a player with Man City.

Yep it’s very frustrating.

If we miss Europe, then we won’t be evaluated by UEFA next season so we wouldn’t face an immediate issue but the UEFA evaluation is multi-year (3 years I believe) so if we qualify for Europe the following season then we’d need to fix the issue (which in reality means a sale or restricting spending).

The Manncity thing even tho it'll never happen is a great way to pad out the squad and also lower the age with technical ability. We don't even need the cash profit if we are getting players in return.

For Tino I would want

Trafford, Khusanov and Lewis

For Tino, wouldn't mind a straight swap with Marmoush if they were willing. Otherwise Id go for Sverre Nypan, Savinho and Etchiverri.

But these are some of their best young players they'd probably want to give away lesser known ones like Kabore

I'm shocked Anderson turned out so good

You are not alone - you would hope he's one player we would have a chance of attracting.

Actually I’m not. I thought his skill and technique were obvious from the get-go. He had some  good games for us, but people were a bit quick to judge him after games where he was anonymous.

That being said, I wouldn’t be spending 100 million on him. We have a lot of positions we need to fill.

A lot of the reason is that he seemed too slow. He had great feet and a great attitude etc - but perhaps he hadn't yet found his best position for us - Howe played him LW, he played as a CAM for Bristol, he did the Longstaff role a few times too as an 8. Although I do remember that pre-season before the previous CL season where looked like a monster - he was very unlucky he did his back in that season as I'm convninced it would have been his breakthrough season. Perhaps Miley doesn't get the focus or opportunity then so swings and roundabouts. It's a shame though because with those two plus Minteh, it is £200m worth of talent in young players who can grow with us through the next phase.

So at Forest is he an 6 or an 8?
