Newcastle, which is becoming one of the leading clubs in England thanks to its economic power, has set its eye on Real Madrid. Mohammed bin Salman, Prince of Saudi Arabia, seems to be willing to take over the services of Andriy Lunin [emoji38]

MBS is our own Ron Noades, then - owner / manager

The idea of Kalvin Phillips worries me a little, although a good player strong passer etc, he's not very mobile in the slightest, with Longstaff and Bruno you have a slow midfield.

We need a fast midfield, Joelinton and Willock would provide that when both fit with Bruno, plus Phillips is hardly going to have spent the season sat on the bench with City and then come here and sit on our bench, so if he comes in and keeps Willock out of the side, and halts Mileys progress im not up for that

Would assume that would form part of any future transfer, fwiw the chronicle are just using footy insider as the source for that one.

Probably, it’s going to be interesting watching it play out either way.

Feel like Philips is one of those players who've gotten worse in people's minds the longer he's been out of the picture, usually it's the opposite.

I think for us, it’s a difficult one. It’s a bit of a short term fix which would be expensive in terms of fee and wages. Also he would lack resale value, not to mention he may lack motivation as he would be taking a step backwards.

He could be our very own Casemiro

Loan fee is peanuts if it halts and plugs the gaping hole in midfield that was exposed badly by Everton, Luton and Forest to name a few teams…

Phillips protecting Botman and Schar will allow Bruno and 1 of our 8s to get into proper attacking positions. It’ll allow Tino to push on at LB and it’ll also allow Trippier to get back to attacking as well.

loan with option is great. Loan with obligation works too assuming he is meeting the requirements, which means he’s playing for us.

(deep down I hate saying this but we’re going to need to rip the bandaid and probably sell one or two of our 8s — Anderson, Longstaff, Joelinton or Willock) and eventually find more progressive attackers or ones who can stay fit. There’s absolutely no reason holding on to any player who’s often hurt)

We paid 25m for Chris Wood to stop gap for a minute. It’s nothing in the grand scheme if we can sort out massive issues in our play. Phillips knows pressing football from Leeds and City. He’s been training under the best manager in football for nearly 2 years. Couldn’t be a better scenario if we want a domestic on loan.

That was a very different situation and not worthy of comparison imo. We needed a striker as the threat of relegation was looming.

Philips is ok as a stop gap, wouldn’t be keen on paying 40m for him though and having him amongst our highest earners.
