The College Dropout
I saw a bit of the game and he was impressive. But is this tournament good for Tino? He’s played 45 games and 3.5k minutes this season. He’s the only player in that team that is likely to be an integral part of a CL campaign next season - and then there’s the World Cup. I would’ve preferred he got some first team experience in those 2 games, then gone away for a good break before a massive season ahead. dunno feel like he’s way above this level. The College Dropout
With the possible exception of Anderson, none of the others are close to making the senior team. Some of them don’t even play regularly for their clubs. Let Tino go to Ibiza man.

Think it's good for his international career. Getting used to being away for a month in that sort of environment, different type of training, getting used to playing different ways of playing every few days. Don't think it particularly benefits us, though. Like you I'd sooner he'd just played the last 2 senior games then off for 3-4 weeks.

mattypnufc
Disagree with people saying he shouldn't be playing. He's a young lad, I'm sure he can manage the extra games. Endless energy man. And that experience is invaluable. He'll be a regular in the first team after the summer. World at his feet if he continues this progression, similar to Hall before his unlucky injury. Pilko
Aye, he'll get a bit of a later start to pre-season anyway for playing in these games. Good experience for him to be there.
wormy
I would usually say it's really cool that the England manager would take such an active interest in the development of one of our youngsters. But I already have such little faith in Tuchel I'd rather he didn't take an interest in any of our players.

Gordon barely played the season prior and the lack of break 2 seasons in a row has impacted his performance this season. Gordon didn’t have the experience or pedigree Tino has either. Tino has played a major part in a cup winning run, 3 full seasons playing and delivering in the PL and played CL football. Tino is also lined up to do that again next season and that wasn’t guaranteed for Gordon. That tournament as Gordon’s major breakout. Tino has locked up Mbappe and Dalah in a cup final, even managed an assist no? He’s beyond U21 football imo Edited 19 hours ago by The College Dropout
The College Dropout
There is the fact he’s not got the hype he deserves for all of that. But that Tuchel‘S problem not Tino’s.
mattypnufc
Gordon was class after the U19 Euros? Last summer was shit for him, but solely blame Southgate for that.
Kanj
Normally agree with you @The College Dropout but I am actually happy he's continuing to get more development and see it as as really good for him to continue to show his talents. He has much to still work on the offensive side of his game, so would be nice to see him take more chances and get more confident in that against this type of opposition. He'll only be better for it long term.
54
There where two options for him this summer: 1) To play in a meaningful tournament, get further big game experience in a tournament environment, play in big stakes games, and be a leader among the squad and learn how to hone them skills further. 2) To play a friendly match, and a game against Andorra, where he will likely only have gotten some token minutes. Clearly for his long term prospects number 1 is the better option, and England absolutely made the right decision, along with Anderson, Gray, Quansah etc. The same how all of Gordon, Tonali, Palmer, Gibbs-White & Pedro Neto's development was helped during the last Under 21's Euros 2 years ago. Joe Hart was saying on comms last night that he owed a lot of his development to the experience he got in his two Under 21 tournaments that he was a part of, and how that helped him feel more at ease when he played in tournaments further down the line, as well as big games in his club career. So I don't understand this view that "He's past U21's Football", if you're eligible, and their isn't bigger fish to fry, then you absolutely should be going to the tournament, its all valuable experience that will make him a better footballer in the long run. And besides, he probably wants to be their playing

And the 3.5k+ minutes at a higher level he’s about to play next season too. Someone mentioned Quansah - he’s played 1/3 of the minutes Tino has this season. Nobody in that squad has the pedigree of Tino. Not even close.
The College Dropout
Gordon and Palmer were not first team regulars going into that tournament and MGW was Miles away from the senior squad. None of those players were set to be cornerstone players in a 50-game campaign the next season. That competition was the first time Gordon was playing regularly and scoring goals in his professional career. Palmer too at that point. MGW was not about to play CL football the next season. Wuansah and Gray aren’t in the first team of their squads and are unlikely to be next season. This might push their profile at their clubs. Gray in particular had a horrible season (although he did play a lot) - this tournament might shift the momentum in his career. This tournament might help their chances of starting the first game in August at their clubs Gordon style. Tino’s just played 3.5k minutes and was a top performer, he’ll need a rest. Tino’s opposite fullback plays in the Czechia B Team or second division or something. The German RB looks like a squad option at Frankfurt. These are boys to Tino. The point is each of them players gained a lot of experience in that last tournament which helped them in the following seasons. Thats the point, and that's something that will likely benefit Tino especially from a leadership perspective, and is way more beneficial than a game against freaking Andorra. Also Gordon had played a lot of minutes for Everton the two seasons prior to the tournament, and played over 4000 minutes of first team action, and you failed to mention Tonali, who had played basically every minute of a Champions League campaign where they reached the semi-finals, before going to the under 21s. The College Dropout
Gordon couldn't get in our team and scored 4 goals all season going into that tournament. He scored 4 goals at the tournament alone did he not? It changed the momentum of his career and brought his first run of back to back competitive football since his Everton days 6 months earleir. You say Gordon had 4k minutes over 2 seasons. Most of those I assume prior to joining Newcastle. Tino has managed 3.5k in a single season. My point is Tino could do with a rest. He doesn't need the momentum, or the European exposure and has played well at a higher level consistently.
