Have to extend don’t we? Can’t replace the whole squad.

Yeah, I think that's reasonable.

Weird one as he's not good enough to be a nailed on starter but also isn't exactly cheap.

There's no way I'd want him starting every week tbh. Bench option only if we've got any ambition to be pushing into the top 5 next season.

He's hopeless when he's not scoring.

Cannot beat a man, doesn't have a trick, isn't particularly quick and isn't that strong either.

He's literally just a finisher. A very good one but he's far more of a centre forward profile playing out wide than a winger in the traditional sense.

Incredibly harsh, he’s made a yard on a defender and put in a good ball many times. He also regularly holds off challenges once he’s put in. Of course he’s got his limitations, but he’s been well worth the investment and will continue to contribute next season, no doubt.

He’s already been part of sides who “pushed into the top 5” as you put it, not that that seems remotely realistic as a goal right now, even with a blindingly good window in the summer.

Would have no issue with him on the bench and playing as a LW in rotation against lesser teams and as a backup striker when we are in need of a goal and chasing something. If we improve our passing and attacking ability around him you could easily see a scenario where his movement creates chances behind or around the box for him to poach.

I dunno if you know the answer but does renewing a deal under the new rules spread the cost again over new remainder years or is amortisation dead with move away from PSR?

Part of squads. Never been a consistent starter over the length of a season. There’s a reason for that.

So he's 28 with I'm assuming 2 years left.

What we doing lads?

Flogging him if there’s a buyer.

It’s a squad game these days. No one is against an upgrade but Harvey Barnes is the least of our worries right now and to dismiss him as “just a finisher” isn’t right.

What else does he bring?

He can finish, he can shoot and he can cross. The issue is he isn't capable of creating the space himself to do any.

A link up striker or someone playing in between the lines off the striker for him to combine with would help him a lot.

Yet another player the current 4-3-3 team setup does not suit. But yet it still persists.

Yep, in direct conflict of what I said above and earlier, I'd sell almost any of our players if the right fee came in.

He has four major strengths in my opinion:

- Finishing (obviously).
- Finding space / being on the end of chances.
- Availability (very very rarely injured).
- He fits into that calibre of player who maybe isn't expecting to play every week, so he's an almost perfect member of the squad.

But his only strength is a big one, according to Gemini this season he's scored in 6 games where we've got points, now one was a 2 - 0 against Leeds and  one a 3 - 1 against Brighton so scrub them as we would have had the points anyway. Other then those games, the other 4 we either won by a single goal or got a draw, either way it was 8 points he had a major hand in.

I know this isn't strictly true as if someone else was playing them who knows etc but still

Yeah my bad, it was 4 - 3 and he scored twice, including the late winner so more points we wouldn't have had.

16 goals this season is a good return considering how poor we've looked in attack a lot of the time mind. His form seemed to drop off ever since we stopped playing with a proper striker.

They was always my plan, lay the lower stats out then when pushed back hit you with the more impressive real figures. The old statistical rope a dope, honest!! 😗

He's the best finisher on team. Would be madness to even consider selling him in a summer where Gordon is almost certainly leaving. Don't really care how old he is, we have very few consistent goalscorers.

Yeah but if we score goals, we run the risk of being dissapointed when we're inevitably pegged back. Get rid.
