he came off the bench last season to win us the game with 2 goals against Wham

won us the game at Wolves

loads of other important goal contributions

he's lethal and not having this option off the bench or to rotate is a big blow, no doubt

Ok, we have Gordon, Joelinton and Willock who can all play there. Next....

I think it affects our bench options more than anything else. He has been very capable of coming on and snatching important goals. Don't think he's been as effective starting, but was still a good option for resting Gordon.

Feel like this window would've been perfect to cash in on Barnes.

Why?

We probably wouldn't replace him now. He's a valued member of the squad, he's just too expensive to sit on the bench. Sell him in the summer. If we qualify for CL/Europa and find new revenue streams, he's suddenly starting 20 games a season.

Mainly because he was on an injury free run that we all knew wouldn't last much longer.

He's hardly an injury prone player. Got a bad freak injury last year that kept him out for a long time and now a slight muscle pull that can happen to any player especially when they haven't been playing many games from the start.

Been some weird takes in this thread. Harvey is one of our better players and probably closest to the first 11 out of all the other subs really especially in terms of being a first option from the bench.

Shit news, but a month barely counts as an injury considering what we've been used to in our club historically. To try and see the positives.

Says more about our squad depth IMO. Barnes is regularly the first one subbed when he’s started this season, which isn’t a ringing endorsement.

He’s a good squad option, but I’m not going to lose any sleep if he leaves.

I could be wrong here but this lad always seems to be injured when we could really use an alternative and yet is fit when everyone else is firing so lives on the bench.

Barnes nearing a Newcastle return

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe:

"Harvey’s not far away. He’s done really well, and we’re really pleased with how he’s looked. He’s another player that’s close to being in contention ."
