If he really left us for Man Utd, I think deep down he really think it’s on Howe. I mean I can’t think of other reason for him to leave the club he supports.

Hope the club just tell Man Utd to fuck off

We sold Gordon for £70m, and I'm pretty sure Hall would be rated higher within the club than Gordon was (or he should be at least). He's also 4 years younger than Gordon and has 3-4 years left on his contract. £50m would be a joke

They’re not equivalent, though - £70m would make Hall the second most expensive LB in history

With all these fees it will depend on what the player has indicated. The club dont want an unhappy player. Not saying hall wants to or not but will have some baring on the fee.

50m seems too little for his age, talent and still pitential but he's in a place on the pitch which dont often get massive fees for compared to attackers.

The counter argument to that is when Kyle Walker went to City for 50m, I genuinely think Hall has more potential and way better technically than Walker ever was

And you’ve got nearly a decade of fee inflation since then.

I think my point is had hall remaind a midfielder and shown his current skills etc 50m would be laughable its gordon level money+ in my opinion easy.

There is a ceiling for most positions though defenders always historically selling for less.

If the player is happy to stay i hope we give him a pay bump and sign an improved deal.

I am not agreeing 50m is enough but can understand why its not currently being suggested at 60/70m

Saying all that I dont want him sold even if we doubled our money.

I think a few transfers have really skewed market value now a days. From keepers

to strikers last few summers (particularly last summer) have been simply mad.

isak, wirtz, caciedo, Enzo etc.

Yes and no. I think the skew is the financial might of the premier League and just how much money is being spent by British clubs.

Lewis Hall is a gem for many reasons, he's very young but already played a lot of senior football, hes left footed, he's English , he's already one of the best left backs in the league and has experience at champions league level.

He's an absolute unicorn of a player and even more so in this market. If we strip all of that away it's very difficult to find good leftbacks.

The counter argument to your counter argument would be that Hall seems to still be deficient defensively and that's why he lost his place at Newcastle and England.

That's not how I would look at it personally, but his manager at both club and international level do seem to have those doubts. I do still think he's going to be a cracking player, but he also has to want to be here.
