The Chronicle thinks Longstaff could be back on Saturday and Barnes next Thursday.

Barnes is a huge one to get back to be honest, being able to rest Gordon will be massive.

It would be great if they were correct. But in Barnes’ case. Has he even trained back with ‘the group’ as Howe always calls it?

Been out a good while so would need to get up to speed and I thought the original prognosis was January?

Him and Longstaff would be a great help. As it would at least give us another genuine option for midfield and for out wide.

He said before the international break that Barnes was ‘back on the grass’.

So if he isn’t already back with ‘the group’ he can’t be far off.

Everton/Spurs would seem realistic to be back on the bench.

Light jogging on the grass and back booting balls about and taking the impact of challenges, landings etc. Are quite different things. It was a broken bone in his foot, wasn’t it?

Let’s hope he’s ahead of schedule and we see him soon. Will have had plenty of time to learn the Howe playbook whilst he’s been out.

True, but if he was back before the international break, that was three weeks ago.

Be interesting to see if he appears in any training pics next week.

No difference at all really when it comes to a break. Once it’s healed/knitted together then not much further improvement you can wait for. Hopefully he’s been drinking plenty of milk!

Muscles are different obviously and need a gradual build up but wouldn’t be surprised if Barnes is on the bench Saturday if not next Thursday.

I just looked it up. He didn’t break a bone in his foot. Something to do with his toe and Howe saying he needed plenty of rest to let it heal and the time frame was 3 months.

Fuck knows  Need him back ASAP, either way.

Howe said in the Bournemouth presser “he needed to let the bone is his toe heal”.

They have been oddly opaque about what the injury actually was though.

He also said he “wouldn’t be too far away after the international break”, so hopefully his return should be imminent.

Updates from Howe in todays presser:

Sean Longstaff - Not Deemed a long term injury, timescale in weeks and not months.

Joe Willock - Not Deemed a long term injury, timescale in weeks and not months.

Harvey Barnes - Still hasnt trained with the squad, but is making good progress in recovery.

Sven Botman - Still hasnt trained with the squad, building up his knee slowly as to not cause further injury.

Elliott Anderson - Set to see specialist, still looking at a 12 weeks recovery time from the injury date on 11th November.

Was hoping for better news :(

I dunno. I wasn’t expecting anyone back in the next few games. Sounds like a 2-3 there should be back around Christmas time. If not a bit sooner.

Willock is certainly a positive. It sounded like he might be knacked long term.

Re Anderson - stress fracture of the back? 12 weeks is about right if it’s that - going off cricketing injuries - danger is he does it again

do we have any players out on loan that could potentially be recalled to fill in?

can't see us not picking up any more injuries/knocks in the next few weeks given the relentless schedule with same 11 and not really utilising bench.

Think we've got Trippier and Lascelles on 4 yellows as well.

Defensively we are fine - got more than enough “cover”

Midfield and up top its looking tough

there’s a decent gap between Man U and Everton then for Spurs you would hope to have at least 2 back?

Sat to Thurs is better than Weds to Sat which was the issue vs Bournemouth - at least it’s more mental and physical recovery

Was Tuesday to Saturday for Bournemouth, but regardless, no decent breaks until January now.
