Sounds absolutely shite tbh. Think I'd enjoy it more watching in the pub.

Not sure what the issue is? Free safe return transport. Alcohol on sale for those who feel they must have it. I get the first batch of buses are departing early is not ideal (I’m on one!) but that aside can’t see what’s to complain about. No different to the arrangements we used to have in the 00’s.

Don't think people will mind the early start but can see people getting pissed off after the game if they're stuck waiting for the later batch of busses

Fiver bet on Chelsea game when we're were 0-1. Then put the winning on this...

I decided to put my money where my mouth is after being told on here so many times this run wasn't a test and nothing to worry about. Couldn't get Liverpool game or I'd have had that as well, just wasn't an option at the time.

They're keeping the bar open for us being kept back so that's a plus.

How would they stop people getting the metro home if they want.

Id Imagine they'll be escorting the away fans to the bus areas as thats what people who had purchased match tickets had agreed to do. 6 thousand is a lot and I imagine a few will escape the net so to speak, can see it causing a bit bother once people are sick of waiting and they're being stopped from going other ways though...

Not if we win. They’ll be begging us to get on the buses ?

Every derby is the same though regardless of buses or metros. They hold you back 30-45mins. Was similar in Europe apart from Dortmund.

It's very different. I used to go to them back then and either went on the train, the Metro or with Keith Barrett. Uually left Newcastle just over an hour before Kick off or if we went with Barrett we'd meet in the Cricketers Arms in Bill Quay which would open especially early for us and the bus would collect us from there. Never once had to do this where I was told to board a bus over 3 hours before Kick for a game 10 miles away. Each to their own but it wouldn't be for me. I actually know a few away regulars who've just sacked this one off.

The arrangement for Saturday arent great but it's the price we pay for taking 6000 v 2500. I'm not complaining because the bigger allocation means I've got a ticket and 6000 pissed up fans will be noisier than 2500!

You are wrong. I went on the the club buses a number of times and it was exactly the same set up. You’ve clearly travelled independently which is totally different and not an option on this occasion with us getting double the usual amount of tickets.

Get the impression they have drinking prioritised over attending which is their choice but speaks volumes.

I seem to remember there was a spat in The Mag after the first derby there (the 2-2) when for whatever reason Barrett had expected all his regular customers to take taxis to the SoL and a few of them wrote in a bit pissed off about it all.

My unpopular, non-local view: play the second string vs the mackems. Have Bruno, Joelinton, Isak and Gordon on the bench to change the game if need be (for 30 minutes max) in the second half.

The mackems are local rivals, but they shouldn't be rivals anymore really given the club's ambition. If the second string can beat them and the first team effectively get a fortnight off it could reset the squad for the second half of the season in the league. Even if we don't progress, it would still be more beneficial for NUFC long-term than a third-round win against a Championship opponent, followed by a fourth-round draw at the Nou Camp against a Guardiola-era Messi/Xavi/Iniesta Barca.

If Newcastle's second XI lose, it's fewer games and the mackems beat a reserve side. So what. :dontknow:

Nee chance, thankfully - so you can all unwrinkle your noses and get the looks of contempt from your local-faces

Don't think many people will be pissed up mate. Doing things this way cuts out the drinking part when fans are waiting for buses from 8.30.

Well I know our away support back then was a lot better than it is now so maybe that wasn't a bad thing. Was talking to a mate earlier on there who was at Anfield yesterday and said the away end was pathetic yet again.

The drink and the football always went hand in hand for many fans so your impression is wrong. You don't need to prioritise. You can have a good drink in the pub with your mates and then go to the football.

Well not on Saturday obviously.

I can’t do it Beren - I’ve tried getting the contempt off my face, but it’s impossible.  :)

I do have a natural sneer tbf, so that doesn’t help.

There are some pubs open from 6am ?. But anyway, there is alcohol being served in the stadium with fans arriving there from 10am so plenty of drinking time for those who want to.
