His main position is CB - he can just play LB similar to Burn.

 

Burn/Schar/Lascelles/Dummett are all leaving/will be leaving soon - this is a great signing.

The only proper LB we have is Targett and he can’t play/needs to go.

 

Dummett is leaving.

Burn is a CB converted to LB, and his days at LB are numbered IMO.

Hall is a CM in the process of being converted to LB, and it’s going to take time.

Livramento is a RB that’s talented enough to do a job wherever.

 

Kelly gives us versatility and another player that can do a good job there until Hall is ready to be a nailed on starter.

I like the flexibility Kelly brings. I dunno if he’s a guy we want as first-choice over the long run, but he’s a PL-quality CB who can also plug in at LB. At LB, he lets us go to a back 3 in attack, as Howe seems to like.

 

Botman        New CB

Kelly             Tosin

 

That’s very good depth over the next few years.

Also a good stop gap if Botman does not come the same after his knee surgery. Improves the general quality in the squad. 

 

Just not sure on that injury record and Newcastle. :lol:

Likes a slide tackle obviously. Echo the sentiment about his highlights there. I saw a bunch of situations where he’s lunged in needlessly but that’s just the clip we’re looking at. He could well be better than that.

 

Hard to tell if we do that last ditch defending as much as Bournemouth.

 

I much prefer seeing clips of players just reading the game and snuffing out passes, Botmans was like that and Tosin’s too.

Maybe thats the hold up. We are bound to be a bit cautious due to our constraints. In hindsight even without factoring in the injuries if they regret keeping Targett.

Domestic end of contracts can sign a pre contract a month before their contract expires, so I think Tosin and Kelly can actually sign a deal on 1st June, with us or whoever gazumps us. Think we can speak to them beforehand - press seem to be saying we are.

Especially with how Hall has (hopefully) made that LB spot his own, this is the perfect kind of squad filler we need. If we get Kelly and Tosin on frees what else do we truly need in defence going in to next season? A true challenger for Pope and a backup CB for until Sven is back up to speed?

 

So much budget on midfield/attack. :sweetjesus:
