The Prophet
Chances are they've known it for quite a while. It's not immediate and he'll still be around until the end of June.
ChrisMcQuillan
It must've been in the pipeline for a while. You don't let a Sporting Director go off with 4 weeks notice, more or less.

Displayname
Lets just get in someone who is just more of an administrator and less an executive director. Eddie sets the vision and has the last say for me. Who cares what is modern or not. Can think of plenty of these modern clubs who have been ran like a shitshow. Edited May 27 by Displayname

It does make me wonder if this was in the pipeline for a little while, and they've just waited until the end of the season to confirm it, as to not cause some mid-season rumbles. I think you're probably spot on. A technical director is more aligned with overseeing and staffing all areas, similar to what Ashworth did previously, and so Howe and Nickson will likely then focus on recruitment. 54
Its also worth noting that there wasn't a "A Replacement will be appointed in due course" sentence at the end of the statement the club released. Which makes it seem like things may already be in the pipeline.

Kimbo
If it’s due to footballing reasons then I hope this has been planned for months. If they just found out that the differences aren’t reconcilable then that would be shit.

As is going through two sporting directors so quickly, each seemingly losing a ‘power battle’. It looks amateur. I dunno. I’m a bit old fashioned in I believe that the guy picking the team and tactics every week should have a pretty big say in the personnel he has to choose from. macphisto
Saw this in the Athletic, "Following Dan Ashworth’s departure in February 2024, this will be the fourth consecutive summer window in which a different figure is leading Newcastle’s summer strategy." Is that Charnley, Staveley, Ashworth, and Mitchell? Hard to believe we were still under Ashley four seasons ago. How times have changed.
midds
Announcing it less than 48 hours after the final ball has been kicked suggests it's been in the pipeline for a while. Sure it'll all come out in the wash though and they've done well to keep a lid on it all tbh. Hoping the replacement is at least announced in the next week or so (assuming they started the process once the decision had actually been made)
Menace
Our transfers before Mitchell/Ashworth were all absolutely fine - so why are people worried? Nickson and Howe are more than capable. In fact I'm sure Nickson will unearth someone quality.
Erikse
Well.. whatever it is, you've got to question the due diligence for the appointment. If it was a bad match with Howe. Could we not have seen that coming pre appointment? Edited May 27 by Erikse
