Paul Mitchell - Leaves Club (Hope); No He Hasn't (Edwards)

It's Hope, so pinch of salt and all that, but if that is even 10% of the truth, than good riddance.

I hate this bit in particular:

Quote

He spoke of being ‘elite’. Players and staff thought their work in taking the team from 19th to the Champions League already fitted that description.

He spoke about playing style. They thought that was Howe’s domain.
He spoke about going on a journey with him. They thought the journey was well underway and that he was joining them.

He spoke about his work ethic, first in, last out. When one staff member later remarked, ‘Haven’t seen you in a while’, it did not go down well.

I hate that sort of "It's my way or highway attitude".

Ever since he stepped foot in the door he came across as a generic bellend with small man syndrome.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Let’s hope lessons have been learned.

If that is all true I really wonder why they appointed him to work with Howe.. Sounds like something that would never work out in a million years, and it was doomed before he had even said a word. Can barely think of a bigger mismatch.

Monaco fans despised him like, I don’t really have a strong feeling on it all as all we know is what’s filtered through the press. However, if we’d lost Howe at the expense of a fucking sporting director I’d never have gotten over it

Seems like a massive recruitment process failure. That will need addressing.

I doubt we will let that happen again after all this.

If it's really as bad as that article states, probably shouldn't keep him around till the end of June?!

This whole situation is so weird and confusing.

Hey @Froggy, want to become Newcastle United Sporting Director ;)

No thanks. Banter club going through directors of football like this.

Could also be Eales who recommended Mitchell for the job. This was before Eales got sick.

Think he did off the back of their time together at Spurs.

True, seems like it. Even worse considering the fact that he knew Mitchell and his personality pretty well (again, assuming that the article is true).

 what an absolute farce that article paints.

If it's true then I'm basically just entirely against having a SD at all, if I was ever in favour.

Howe has made a mockery of the idea that we need one, much less someone with those apparent character traits.

Canny that, for once, we've fallen on the right side of a sliding doors moment, mind you.

If he’d been hired to work with Howe, Howe would have been involved in the hiring process. This sounds like a hostile takeover of sorts by Eales.

It's almost as though Eales had him come in to put Howe in his place or something.

I remember Eales saying in that interview shortly after that Howe needed to focus on his work on the grass.

Really really bad look for Eales.

It's probably been mentioned but this really does highlight how well watertight we've managed to keep our internal affairs compared to previous regimes.

No one twigged anything was up and apart from the Mitchell interview last summer, there was no speculation of an internal struggle.

Even with transfers last season,  it was Palace who were releasing the Guehi details not us. Considering we used to hear leaks on a weekly basis it's really refreshing.

Could make for an exciting summer
