These are not clubs that compete in Europe. Show me clubs that compete in Europe from the PL that spend that amount.

neither are we at the moment and Bournemouth have just about as much chance as being in Europe next season as we do currently, to say otherwise is very disrespectful.  We got into CL once but that doesn't mean we're a CL club and we need to stop thinking like we are.  They spent a lot less than we have in last few years and are sitting very near to us in he league, people are simply saying that success comes at their different approach to buying.

Like the way Brighton Brentford and Bournemouth do business. But I think you need to spend at a clip close to the big 6 to sustain a challenge.

That means revenues close to the big 6.

That’s why I spend so much time in the PSR thread. Everything else (and to a point - current league performance) is noise.

Cheers man, appreciate your efforts.

I agree but we are super slow with prospect monitoring, look at players like Perrone, Angelo, Vitor Roque from a few years ago. We monitor and scout for ages whereas other clubs just pounce and get them in. Forest, Chelsea, Man City, Brighton, Bournemouth in particular. 10-15m is a punt these days. We have to be less risk averse in my opinion. Put aside 30m a season for these types of signings.

look at this Greek striker Brighton just bought. We were linked for ages also. All three Man City defender signings the same. I understand this Jan we weren’t in a position to buy but that’s not always been the case, we’ve been too perfectionist in my opinion.

Understand what point you're making, I believe we'd always be in the market for those players, but half the time influence from agents, parents etc, play a part in young talents choices.

Feel with the few names I mentioned, they were on their way, not really a risk, but with us I think we're hesitant how to fit them in, take Huijsen I assume we were not sure how he'd fit with all the CBs on the books, I also feel Eddie is loyal to the senior players, Dan Burn doesn't deserve to be left out, however, given his age, he will decline, and that's where I'd hope Eddie starts being brave and utilise young players with potential. Huijsen would want to leave Juventus and play regularly, Bournemouth could guarantee that, I think we could have, but we haven't shown it in the past where players of 19 start games for us regularly.

Go have a look at some of the players Bournemouth, Brighton etc have managed to bring in the last season or two. It’s more than doable for us to sign a 2/3 quality players for 80 million.

Completely different clubs and from afar I see them as good places for players to get accustomed to the Premier League without too much pressure. I would chuck Brighton and Fulham in the same category too.

It is completely different at Newcastle where players don't have that bedding in period. I'm not saying don't buy young but they have to be top pedigree, like Hall, and they don't come too cheaply.

I'm sure there will be occasions when we buy a cheap player from nowhere who can do a job but that will be very rare.

We have a manager whose best quality is developing young talent (Hall, Gordon etc). We have a sporting director whose biggest skill is unearthing young talent. I genuinely don’t see a reason why can’t progress and challenge even if the budget is 80 million.

You say they don’t have time to bed in here, then reference Hall, who took a year to bed in.

I agree with most of that issue is just the size of the mini rebuild due.

Taking the 80m as real and let's pair that with getting some Europe this season means we need a mini rebuild

How many on final year do we want to keep?  and who now needs improving who maybe only has a year left on their deal come the summer.

Minimum before we look at squad building-

Right wing

striker cover for Isak

New starting keeper or true number 2 rival

RCB cover or new starting RCB

That's a minimum before we look at what happens to longstaff or Barnes for instance and if they go do we need to spend some or all of the fee on their replacement

I am glad it's not my job to make all this work you could spend 50m just on a starting RW so it's going to take more sales or these kids brought in to step up onto our first time bench ready to start/cover. Or alot of hits in the unearthed gem category.

Is 2 or 3 players enough if we are competing in Europe next season? And we might lose some that are running out of contract in the summer.

So with our current squad now, most on here say we need a CB and RW? If we added that Huijsen for the 12 million he was available for last summer (a lot on here wanted him) that would give us 68 million left to get a RW and maybe keeper. You genuinely don’t believe that’s doable?

To sustain a league finish in Europe and compete in the Europa league or CL to a good standard? I don’t think so no.  It’s a thin squad low on quality.

I’m not talking about a 1 off season.  I’m talking about squads that qualify for Europe in multiple seasons consecutively. 3-4 seasons in a row.

I’m basing it on no champions league, I can’t envisage us finishing top 5 this season.

Just now, The Prophet said:

We need a GK, CB, RW and ST as it is. Potentially LB cover if Targett leaves.

Agreed, on the face of it seems a lot, however we can be clever about it. KWP on a free would be left and right back cover for example.

I still think we try sign a RW who can cover upfront as well (Mbuemo type).

And a CM to eventually replace Joelinton. Maybe not this summer but it’s coming.

I've said this before but I'm not sure we'd sign a third striker, I think it would block Osula's pathway. More like a RW who can cover upfront, in the ilk of Mbuemo?

Having said that, that's assuming Osula does a Hall and actually gets used next season rather than bench warming.

If he's not good enough to take reasonable minutes off Isak and cover in his absence, then yeah we'd need further cover up front
