Unless we’ve been weirdly lining up deals ready to go (which goes against everything we’ve seen this summer), it’s fanciful thinking that if Isak went we would quickly be knocking off many buys in a very space of time.

This deal likely happens, then it’s a CM and striker. That’s it. Even if Isak is sold now, I don’t think we replace him this summer and accept someone like Osula is back up (or Gordon, with Korean guy kept around for back up to Barnes) and we wait till January.

Thiaw and Wissa for £60m combined (rising to £70m), on top of Elanga fee and Ramsdale would be what £125m?

If we had £150m to play with before sales, Longstaff sale might mean we stretch to a similar ball park CM (£40m either before or with add ons). Feels a lot of money for a shrug of the shoulders summer, so hopefully the CM is someone who wets the appetite.

As far as I know, the reporting last week about Guehi was true… we did go back in for him. I assume we were turned down sharpish which is why the Thiaw deal has happened quickly.

Appreciate this if true. At least he didn't play with our desperation like others.

Feels like Guehi might not move this window TBH. Which is weird but maybe palace prefer just to eat the loss and have him for another season.

Almost certainly the player has decided he's going to walk and almost certainly it will be to Liverpool.

It's becoming more common. In the PL in particular, clubs don't need the £10-30m just to get a fee. Real tried to get a free backline of TAA, Konate, Rudiger, Alaba

Players getting absolutely massive wages. Alaba's finished after the ACL it seems, RM can't give him away, the salary is crazy.

If Isak is to go, wouldn’t mind the following to pad out the squad

Ramsdale

Guehi 40m

Thiaw

Paqueta 40m

Gallagher 30m

Elanga

Wissa

Jackson or Ramos or Samu 60m (I don’t mind any young prodigy that Howe can develop as long as high ceiling and world class potential)

Overall we’d be much much stronger as a squad than having one extra superstar who doesn’t want to be here.

The new or extra players are almost covered by the Isak money. Very doable. I’ve not included those that are already signed or almost signed as it appears we’ve got a budget for those outside of Isak.

They all going to share Isak’s wage as well as fee?

It's definitely doable. Isak sale would give us something like £100m in pure profit + 15m saved in amort+contract for the season.

The contract cost and amortisation for these new signings would be something like £100m for the season, and we already had a lot of money to spend this summer to begin with. Add in profit from Longstaffs sale.

Would be very limiting on our future spending though.

Milan signing Koni de Winter as a replacement? @Curva Sud Milano

Yes, not the best option... we're afraid to spend money on very young talents like Leoni or Comuzzo. In Spain and England this doesn't happen, if someone is 18 and is good he plays as a starter...in our country only the smaller teams do this.

Last line is the takeaway.

I’d estimate that getting in four players of the (established) quality of Guehi, Paqueta, Gallagher and Jackson using the ‘Isak money’, would mean an uplift in our current weekly wage of about £400k - £500k.

Be aware that the extremely high pass completion percentage is distorted by the fact that Milan built his game from the back, often with very simple horizontal passes. He certainly has good feet, but hes not the Rodri of the defense.

Soon will be!

Thats how we play anyway. Howe loves a mid range pinger into a winger, forward or running midfielder.

So long as hes decent at playing short, that will do Howe.

Of course, I meant that those statistics often serve as a general idea but they shouldn't be taken as absolute truths.

Maldini once made a beautiful tackle on Ronaldo (the Brazilian) and at the end of the match the journalists complimented him on that tackle.... he replied that if you have to tackle it means you've done something wrong before. Class.

What do you think about Estupinan? He hasn't played very well so far.

Thought it was a pretty good signing for you. A big loss for Brighton. Haven’t seen him play yet but it’s kinda surprising he’s had a bad start. Early days though.

A good defender who gets up and down the wing well, though not sure about his crossing ability. Only has 5 assists in 4 PL seasons. Has played more in a back 4 at Brighton though so idk if Milan playing with a 3 and him as a wing back might take some adjusting to.

I'm seeing 4 goals and 9 assists in 3 PL seasons? Only played for half the season in 23/24, as I think he was injured for a long time. I don't think the offensive stats are that bad. I actually thought his weakness was defensively, but maybe I'm wrong. If I remember correctly he has played as a wingback for Brighton in his first season where he got 5 assists under De Zerbi.
