Was fanboi-ing Antonio Silva for a while. If we'd signed him instead for twice the money and he was putting in these performances, I'd have been very happy.

So far, it looks like his qualities dove tail very, very well with Botman's.

What if we just sing, "Malick Thiaw der da doo doo doo doo" to the tune of Baby Shark?

The Bella Ciao tune is the only one you need. Just get that going and job done.

Maldini knew what he was doing trying to pair Botman and Thiaw as the future CB partnership for Milan, and they're phenomenal together. They're both big, strong, and good with the ball. With Tonali in front of them and Big Nick up top, a nice spine is developing.

Was happy to hear his bella ciao song getting an airing. That 'Malick, Malick Thiaw' one is godawful no matter who the player is and it's class to hear something new. Should use the same song for Eddie Howe as well tbh.

Wonder if this will be a lesson for people

i believe  my “what are we doing?” comment centred around the fact we seemed to follow him for a summer only to drop all interest in him to go for Guehi then finally go for him a year later paying more. Not like context matters or anything.

I was negative about this signing but I’m glad I was wrong.

What's wrong with that? We couldn't get Guehi so moved on to another target we'd been tracking for a while

nothing majorly wrong with it. Just didn’t make sense when money is tight to pay more for a player we could have got cheaper a year ago.

Money wasn't tight this summer.

We thought we could get Guehi last summer but Palace didn't sell. We went back in for Thiaw and had to pay more.

I think people were just annoyed we were being linked with players we've scouted for a while rather than sexy long haired unknown Italians

Deal wrapped up to go to Como for 22m (i think) wouldn't have helped?

On early showing the "over payment" seems worth it.

Making the funds stretch is what annoys me more with the Wissa deal over this one.

I think it's important to mention how this summer was from a management pov.

I don't believe that they strictly worked on one deal at a time but I do think it's likely that some deals were higher focus at different times than others.

Yes on paper it would have been nice to get Thiaw earlier if that's your guy and maybe save some cash in doing so. (that part isn't certain) But when Isak situation, trying to sign another striker and Trafford among other things is happening all at once it's not too surprising that it took a backseat.

I'm a scrooge but "Rolls Royce" to describe a player is quickly becoming one of my football pet hates

I like it, but Rolls Royces don't break down as often as Sven, he needs to never get injured again and he has earned the moniker.
