You’ll need to point out where my confusion is - you suggested that Christianity is all about being anti-hatred; those of us who’ve actually read the Bible can find plenty in both the OT and NT to comfortably point out that this isn’t true. Religious folks are fully entitled to their faith - the issue is when it spills over into nasty shit like homophobia.

He does seem to be involved in a lot of goals conceded this season, or maybe it's just the games I've seen. But that's my take away from it as well. He's usually trying to do last ditch tackles when they fly in, and that does suggest he's a natural defender.

You tell me what Guehi said or did that allowed you to draw the conclusion that he hates gay people for who they are, or wishes any kind of ill towards them. Adam P Posted Thursday at 13:43 Share Posted Thursday at 13:43 We'd have never finished 5th under Pardew if we'd not signed homophobic players.

There was nothing wrong with the statements in isolation - it is the context. He doesn’t tippex ‘I love Jesus’ on the armband for every single other game, just when he is asked to wear a rainbow armband. And his old man came out and stated that the LGBT community are ‘imposing’ their views on his son. Frankly, just don’t wear the armband if you feel like that. Or give up the captaincy. But it was dog whistle stuff ‘oh I’m not a homophobe - that’s your read’. Just like Elon Musk was throwing out love from his heart - it’s your sick mind if you see a Nazi salute. It’s worth bearing in mind that there are places in the world where the religious (Christians and Muslims) have imposed punishment for homosexuality; countries like, say, Nigeria, which still has the death penalty for homosexuality in some states …

southernmag Posted Thursday at 14:00 Share Posted Thursday at 14:00 I have been advised that due to Guehi having beliefs some people don't like, he is some combination of dickhead, bigot and/or c**t. If we signed him he'd clearly stink out the entire club. Why are we even discussing him?
Weezertron Posted Thursday at 14:04 Share Posted Thursday at 14:04 I hate when sportstars push against the LGBTQ community. Happens all the time in US sports. Usually they'll get rallied around by the hard right wing cult after the backlash, which doesn't exactly make them look any better. Whether they're homophobes or not, they're definitely not very smart.

Kimbo Posted Thursday at 14:10 Share Posted Thursday at 14:10 He’s a good player and would be a good signing, I just don’t necessarily think he would be a great signing. The next Van Dijk or Kompany is out there somewhere and it’s not Guehi IMO. On his views, I wouldn’t necessarily say he actually hates gay people or that what he did should rule him out as a signing. I expect he’s probably stuck between the outdated bigoted ideology he was raised with and being a normal decent enough person. So not a write off morally, he just needs to grow some more. southernmag Posted Thursday at 14:11 Share Posted Thursday at 14:11 But some are more moral than others. Based on what?

Just don't actively protest against the stuff. I have no fucking clue how that is unreasonable. Edited Thursday at 14:14 by Weezertron

Seems very fair and balanced. Because of his hesitancy over the armband, because of Elon Musk's sly Nazi salute and because of some Nigerian Muslim states' laws, even though he's from the Ivory coast. With how much vitriol and accusation you as an LGBTQ advocate level at someone like him for being a Christian, why would you be surprised he'd be hesitant wearing the armband or that his dad would say they feel imposed upon? What I'd be interested in you showing me are the posts from Guehi on any of his social media where he has abused any gay person with insults similar to those you have levelled at him today. Or show me any reports of people that have said he speaks ill of them in any way. Because I see a lot of that from you, but I don't see any of it from him. Magpie Mover Posted Thursday at 14:25 Share Posted Thursday at 14:25 Back to football. Everybody talks about Guehi being bought to play as a Right Centre Back and eventually replace Schar and yet I've never seen him play there either for Palace or England. Maybe we were planning on buying him to replace or as an upgrade on Botman. That's a far more interesting subject that what's being discussed in here. AyeDubbleYoo Posted Thursday at 14:28 Share Posted Thursday at 14:28 I rate him quite highly but on balance I hope we don’t buy him now. There’s too much baggage around the deal now, both because of how Palace behaved and the armband incident. Personally I would just keep ourselves out of it.
