He's obviously not been at his best for a while but in order for him to get assists it relies on the other player being able to finish.

New players, at new clubs, with new systems and new teammates, take time to adjust to their surroundings. If you think we bought Elanga as a finished product, then you haven't been paying attention. Hes not been as good as any of us thought he would be... but that doesn't determine his future. He's as good as I thought he'd be you guys don't watch football and assume this is football manager mind you, this is a forum where I was lambasted for the audacity of championing Tonali over Longstaff so the difference in positions is somewhat understanding

Murphy and Barnes have had no issues during that period with considerably less minutes, but sure, I'm only telling half the story. McCormick
I also think we need to take a long, hard look at fans’ relationship with wingers at this club. If they don’t lose the ball and pass it backwards: “Ahh, too safe, man! Take him on!” But if they try something daring and it doesn’t come off: “Argh, ffs, this lad’s pony!” Honestly, part of being a winger is that you’re always going to be a little inconsistent; it’s the nature of the role. You’re taking risks, trying things others won’t, and that means sometimes it won’t work. Yet somehow, the fans here still seem to expect perfection every single week. When was last time we had a winger who didn’t get trashed every other week by the fans? Ben Arfa?

I'm keeping the same energy I don't think you guys are idiots as I don't know any of you. Defensive, counter attacking side that would offer him loads of space to stretch in legs in transition. In a side where he'd have to regularly play against low blocks his limitations come to light. This isn't too dissimilar to Pedro Neto's performances and output from his Wolves' days to Chelsea for example. That archetype of player have limitations compared to guys like Saka, Palmer, Semenyo, Kudus, Mbuemo etc who can actually play under most circumstances due to their greater technical prowess Edited October 30, 2025 by Roids
AdoptedGeordieFromPompey
Even when a player is out of form and low on confidence - if they keep showing for the ball, making the right runs, not shying away and putting in a right shift then it is hard to overly criticise. He's clearly getting to grips with a different style of play and a new team but he's not hiding, keeps making runs, tracks back relatively well and isn't sulking about things. Give the lad time. We all know there is a player there who can be a real asset. No need to pillory him before he's even started ten games here.

And if reports are to be believed, we were making moves for Elanga in previous windows, so he was a long term target not a spur of the moment purchase. And Elanga is currently transitioning into our way of playing, under the guidance of Howe. That's taking time, as it will with some players. In a world where we're hamstrung by PSR we're not going to take many gambles on players who cost a lot of money. I'm assuming you're not working in elite level football, but you seem to have the view that you have better insight into players and tactics than the NUFC scouting staff and management team do. Assuming you're not working in elite level football, are you of the view that you have better insight into players and tactics than the NUFC scouting staff and management team do ? non sequitir I have my views as do the scouts, they do not have to align. Their signings in totality have been great over the last 3 years, loads of hits. I do know the club were in for Mbuemo and both Pedro & Ektike (to play alongside Isak) which suggest they view technical prowess as important I have no grievances with Elanga, he's performing as expected. I would be estactic were he to outperform my expectations (as well as his LW counterpart) Edited October 30, 2025 by Roids
Sibierski
I much prefer when Elanga moves inside with purpose, rather than direct knock and run down the line. The chance for Barnes first half was that, where his ludicrous acceleration over 2-5 yards means opposition can’t track him when he’s coming inside for quick one twos to move the ball. Would like to see his game then develop where he’s then arching his run into the box so if it goes left and played quickly first time in, he’s got a steal on the defence to get the ball first / or it goes to Bruno who plays that delicate ball over which Miggy profited from so much in his purple patch. I would expect that’s what Howe will be trying to coach into him more to improve his game, and the knock and run hit byline is the 2nd option he chooses. At the moment, it seems the default which may be due to lack of confidence / players not on same wave length fully.
Sibierski
What is his shooting stats for us so far? Outside the first couple of games, feels like he rarely has any shots in his appearances now which isn’t ideal.
