The winner summed up his performance today. Brilliant interception, good run and then absolutely zero effort to keep himself onside. If that ball had been parried right rather than left, it would have been infuriating. Bright moments but very inconsistent.

Nonsense.

He made the right run. You can see him pointing for the ball to be slid in behind for him.

Osula has the option of playing him in, or cutting into the space Elanga's run creates, so he can shoot.

Osula goes with the second option and gets the shot away and the goal comes from there because both Bruno and Tonali have made the effort to get forward and join the attack like they're supposed to.

It was actually a poor finish from him, GK would've saved it.  It was in the middle of the goal.

The pace of which the ball bounced up at him he did well with his strike. To say it was poor is harsh.

I'll have to see it again then but I had a great angle of it live and it was hit into the middle of the goal.

Not saying it was or wasn't going in, just disputing that it was poor. Barnes put a cross in and their defender missed the header which Elanga probably thought he would clear away. With that in mind he reacted quickly and did well not to thrash at the finish

I said he made the right run - I agree with you. But watch it back. Once the decoy run is done, he basically just keeps jogging forward and watching the game - without any thought of the fact he might be able to make another contribution. As I said if either the goalkeeper parries right rather than left or Bruno hits the right hand post, then Elanga is a mile offside and unable to make any attempt at putting it in. Once he’s run offside, he should be getting himself back onside in case he can get involved again.

He did have really solid games against Barcelona, Liverpool and Union St. Gilloise. Notable in games where we either counter attacked from deep positions or a weaker opponent.

I think we need to trust EH that he will develop him to become successful in our system. Look at Gordon, Hall and Osula. All of them took time to adapt to the methods.

That’s always going to be a minority of games though.  It should increasingly become a minority over the next 5 years of his contract.

he can’t be compared to Hall. Hall was 19 and was always going to need to develop physically and mentally. You could see from his clips, he was a baller that was never in question.

Elanga will develop mentally to our systems sure.  But the big question is - is he good enough with his football technique fundamentals to go where we want to go? I’m hoping he’s playing below his level due to confidence but it is bad.

I think that's a bit harsh tbh.

It's a difference of 3 seconds between the shot and the follow up goal.

Elanga is really quick, but come on man.

Hes had two poor sloppy passes but other than that hes been decent. You could argue from a wing perspective hes been better than Barnes.

However Barnes has Burn on his side and Barnes is a massive goal threat.
