Tonali passed him the ball on the wing. Defender was a couple of yards off him. He just needed it to shift the ball in front him and either cross or beat his man.

Did nowt. Just tamely passed it back to Tonali.

Poor again, never was worth £45m that we were first linked with him for, never mind the £55m.

Not that he's helped confidence wise, being the 'last resort' sub after trying everything else.

I think pretty much any attacking footballer with 2 good seasons in the PL is worth £45m TBH.

Knew he'd catch strays today

TBF, almost everyone has. Not just the players, but Eddie and the coaching staff too.

It was that bad of a performance today. [emoji38]

I hope he gets better in the coming weeks, but spending 100m on him and Ramsey was … a choice.

Does seem harsh, wouldn’t put him in todays top 5 deserving of criticism / kick up the backside

You're chucking a player who's confidence is shot into an absolute mess of a formation. He didn't stand a chance.

Unrelated, but the only other time I can recall Eddie losing tactical control so much was last season v West Ham at SJP.

Think this guys confidence is all gone. Signed a man at his peak, and destroyed it after a few games by dropping him, then having Barnes ahead of him, then now last resort option.

Started two games, one of them needing to play with 10 men, then 2 more starts in the following 8 in league, one being hooked at HT. If you sign someone for £55m from same league, and can’t give them like 8 starts in a row to establish consistency, then what’s the point of the expensive outlay for proven output?

We certainly overpaid and he wasn’t any fan’s first, second or third choice RW. However, he will come good, it’ll probably not be until next season though and that’s not really good enough for the cost and the fact we don’t have a single technician on the ball on the wing

It’s painful seeing him like this. Your new big money signing and simple 5 yard passes he’s doing it shin height. Won’t try and take on his man.  It’s sad to see

Makes a mockery of paying a premium for PL experience if he doesn’t come good to next year.

What’s to say he will come good next season if he ends up being 2nd choice to Murphy this season? He needs to come good this season.

He’s not in the scenario of Tino / Hall developing. He’s someone with 100+ prem games, 20+ international caps. Has to be making that position his own as likes of Thaiw / Botman / Isak etc. all did when coming in.

Every player is different. They won't all be a hit from the off, or at all.

I said this the other day but a hell of a lot of stock is being put in low confidence. It's definitely a factor but I don't think confidence is the differentiator on being able to correctly execute simple short passes, have a first touch better than a Sunday morning player or not shank the majority of crosses miles away from their targets. His ability levels look way lower than what we've paid for and we barely see the thing he's clearly been bought for - pace.

To negate Elanga and Gordon to you sit in a low block. Teams are doing that and they look ineffective because of it. If teams were opening up and Elanga had all day to run in behind and it was as simple as rolling the ball across the box both he and we would look fantastic.

As much as Elanga's flaws are being highlighted our inability to play a different way is. He suits a style of play we arent being allowed to play at the moment. How we turn that around i dont know but i hope Eddie does.
