Indeed. Elanga initiated that move that led to the chance for Barnes with the interchanges he had cutting inside, with Willock, Tonali and then Woltemade. Great bit of play. Doesn't seem like he really has that in him, so fans might need to stop asking for it. He’s done it a good few times since joining. Just the old school knock it down the line and outpace them. Stuck record here. But Spence is one of the best 1 v 1 defenders in the league. Apart from lacesgate. I thought he was their best player by a mile. Skeletor
I'm still hoping he'll come good in time. Seen enough at Forest to know what player he can be. That being said it really hasn't been good so far.

Doesn't know what he's talking about ? I was sold on his highlights video. Obviously all highlights videos can make a player look outstanding, but the way he was swerving those deliveries in at pace would be a nightmare to defend. Tbh, even when he's not playing that well, he looks dangerous. Just his movement and attacking intent with his short passes opens up defences. AyeDubbleYoo
On his highlights his decision-making looked pretty good as well, just his confidence seems a bit low at the moment and he's not in a flow state when he's playing. Shame he hasn't adapted instantly but everyone isn't like that.

I said this during the match day thread that he seems wayyyy more effective when doing this so I 100% agree. Which is strange considering what his strengths as a player are but so far he seems to have more success when doing this for some reason. Most of the good things he did last night and most of the time I've seen him quite frankly are when it comes inside.

Or do the stats not allow that. When I was younger my underlying numbers were to shit in my pants where I stood, if I made it to the toilet it was a big outperformance. Now though, I can shit on the toilet most days. Edited October 30, 2025 by bobbydazzla

It's not been that successful, but if players are scared of that, it makes coming inside now and again far more effective. Players like Barnes who aren't as effective going outside get shut down because everyone knows he is going to cut in.

Average players experience mean reversion. 2 hours ago, AyeDubbleYoo said: He played two good seasons at Forest, no? Before that he was a bit-part player in Man U reserves. CPL
I am not concerned at the minute. He seems like a good egg and if Barnes/Gordon/Murphy keep performing, then isn't it great to have him as a 4th choice winger in the league. It is funny how of all the summer signings, I would have thought this one to be the most risk free, and was sure he would perform. Turns out that the higher risk signings like Thiaw and Woltermade have been the best ones so far.
