Irrespective of unfairness and the gap to City, we've spent badly here, in the new regulation climate and old.

We've spent £55m to get someone worse than Murphy who himself even though worked on by the manager really has been kept at PL level because of our hands being tied behind our backs.

Murphy just has the sense to play the ball forward quickly or cross it first time whenever he has any little space to do so, but in reality he's so poor man.

If Elanga would just adopt the same approach for the time being, especially as he gets into great positions so often with his speed and runs in behind, he'd be so much better. But he's not been told to do so, or hasn't realised this for himself, which is just so incredibly disappointing.

Well let's hope so, I just don't see it. I've followed him for a long time and I was against us signing him from the beginning. Just lacks general footballing ability and IQ.

Said it before the season started that he's NOT the solution to our right hand side and that he's a very limited player that won't evolve us, one who's quick in straight lines, and even then mostly without the ball. He had the perfect setup at Forest.

He has until Christmas imo. I've been here far too many times with other players to write him off.

For all the ‘juice’ and daft lad antics, Murphy is an intelligent footballer.  I don’t think I can remember an NUFC player making more of his talent.  Elanga might be a really clever lad off the pitch, but he doesn’t appear to have a good football brain

Well, to be fair Murphy wasn't always like this and he only figured it out much later.

I'm amazed that Elanga can't see how well that works for Murphy, and mimic some of that, as it would make his life so much easier.

Hopefully he eventually figures it out too, and we see a similar realisation or improvement to what Murphy had, or he's in big trouble and so is the club.

Are you thinking he’ll be our starting RW at the start of next season?

I lean towards thinking that outside of a few players there's no such thing as a starting XI tbh. I think he'll be playing regularly and that he'll have improved a lot though.

I have no doubt he might be capable of the odd good game and an occasional positive impact but he is all physicality and no football brain so it would be entirely unsustainable over any medium term period.

He’s one we simply have to get shot of somehow. £110m for him and Wissa is an absolute sickener. Atrocious use of funds.

I suppose the difference would be that Howe made a silk purse from an inherited pig’s ear - not sure that signing pigs ears is a great policy.

Alternative view: if he can turn an inhereted pigs ear into a silk purse, imagine what he can do with a player he's wanted for years.

It's no exaggeration to say Jordan Ibe is Howe's only failure imo, he gets every benefit of the doubt.

I’m happy to go with exactly this tbf, without withdrawing any criticism of Elanga (and his signing) thus far.  Elanga doesn’t scream ‘we are looking to change to a more possession-based game’, either.  If Elanga had been the only poor signing last summer it would be a bit easier to take, too.  I think the only player we’re likely to cut losses on in the summer is Wissa tbh.

Honestly I think the rule applies to all of them. You only need to look at Ramsey to see how quickly 'failure' turns to either not talking about him or talking about how he's growing on you. Wissa will definitely get there imo, I'm more convinced about him than Elanga.

Ramsey was pretty much always the same for me - a solid PL player who isn’t a marked step up from Willock.  He’s not a terrible signing, just not necessarily the most economic use of the resources available relative to his talent.  He’s been perfectly fine rather than shite.

Wissa on the other hand just looks like a terrible signing - and he’s already a failure, given the inflated price tag was for immediate results, not on the premise that at some point he’d start showing something.

I'm just saying, it says a lot about the mentality of the fanbase. Will always punch down before lifting up.

On a forum?  Sure.  I’m not onboard with shouting shite at players at the match nor abusing them on social media.  But what’s the point of a forum discussing players if we have to pretend that poor performances are good ones?

Eddie will coach him up to the point that he will be a decent contributor but it does feel a bit like the battle is to make him a serviceable player, which given how desperate we were for a quality RW and the money we spent is very disappointing. He looks like a promising youth player, not someone we spent years looking at and bought to be our first choice RW.

It’s his first touch and ball control in tight spaces that has been the most disappointing thing, for me. Everything looks like it’s a massive struggle to just get and keep the ball under control. Feel like if he looked better in that regard and it was just the decision making that wasn't clicking for him I’d be less worried but again he just looks like he needs more time on the ball than he is ever going to get at this level.
