Everton vs. Newcastle United: 05/10/24 @ 17:30 (Sky Sports)

Recommended Posts

Need to keep the intensity we had against City and with the extra quality I’m confident of a win. Although I thought that last year …

Memories of sitting in the home end ‘corporate  end ‘ ( this is why TCD comment about them made me laugh) and going behind only to be greeted by an 8 year old scouse giving the away fans the fingers and shouting ‘stupid Geordie wankers’ much to his Dads delight

I know that we will go 433, but I would be interested in us doing some sort of box midfield 4 malarkey with Willock coming in for Murphy, and Barnes/Gordon as a 2.

Something like

           Pope

Trippier Schar Burn Lewis

         Tonali Bruno

    Big Jer        Little Jer

    Gordon     Barnes

That front 4 would be hard to contain

As a few have said, this game will show if we have turned any corner. We are still waiting for an away performance, there are still major question marks over us. Wich NUFC are turning up. The City one or the months of poor away games?

Big game in that a win could really ignite the season going into another international break where we might then actually get our strikers back.

I think this game will tell us a fair bit about where the club is at form wise. We raised our levels against City but can we go to Everton and do the same?

You actually think we will get Wilson back?

Okay then... 😄

Also just seen Lewis at left back and thought you meant Jamal Lewis

Memories of his one PL assist being in this ground…

Could struggle again, I think.  Combination of us not being much cop away from home, them defending deep and the fact that Everton seem to regularly get a result against us at Goodison.  I had that in my head anyway and it does seem to be the case.  Last 10 is W-2 D-2 L-6.

Not having a striker and our team playing with inverted wide men, who seem allergic to crossing at the best of times or at least under instruction not to.  Just means I think we will struggle to create anything of note.  As it isn't like our attacking play has been electric this season and I can't see us cutting through them with quick, incisive passing.

Weirdly, I thought a draw at Fulham would be a bad result.  But I feel like a point here wouldn't be the end of the world.

Probably go with the same team that played against City.

I feel like we’ll batter Everton with the lineup we have available now.

Hopefully it won't be a repeat of last night...

Christ no! Aye I’ve been losing my marbles recently…my son is called Lewis and looks like a young Lewis Hall, which is probably why I’ve put him in at left back 🤣

Feel we often fall into their trap of just playing for long balls and set pieces which they're better at than us rather than just trying to play our own game to make the crowd uncomfortable

Hopefully if @HaydnNUFC does get a ticket he doesn't tie himself to the post

Saw Isak dribble past 5 of their players right in front of me in my last trip to Goodison in that hilarious 1-4 game.

If I'm there our chances go up that we'll win. Which is why someone should help me get a ticket imo.

Gordon hasn’t played well there since he moved.

Or before, according to them…

Yeah I’m interested to see how AG does. Like you say he was poor in the only game he’s started against them. Definitely owes us a big performance.

Probably suits Gordon more to sit mid and draw them on so he can hit spaces behind. It'd be good for Barnes as well, but then you never really want to give another team the initiative when they've got a home support that can generate some momentum.

We could also try and use Gordon more like an AM to help control the possession and enable inside gaps for wingers to exploit, but I don't think he has the game in congested areas to perform that role as well.

Midfield is always so important in these types of away games. I'm hoping Joelinton-Bruno-Tonali is a combination that'll stamp authority from the outset. On paper, they should have a good mix of aggression, physicality, and technical ability.
