I know it's still early doors, but if you aren't concerned by how things have gone so far this season, then you need to look again.

You said it'd be a stretch to get in the top 10, we're in the top 10.

What a frustrating afternoon that was. There's two really opposite ways you can take a result & game like that and I'm probably sat somewhere in between the two of them.

Positive: Literally every team in world football will have a few games like that each season where they dominate the play and come on the end of a smash and grab from a team not that bothered about scoring. We had the three best chances in the game and didn't take them and if you play that game through ten times we probably win it 7 times and draw the other two. Brighton weren't remotely arsed about scoring and the goal was basically the only time they got into our half in the first 70 mins. We controlled the play, looked good in our build up and just nothing seems to drop for us at the moment. I can't really blame Eddie or the set up or the selection for any of today. Possibly a minor question mark on Murphy > Barnes if I'm really digging around. We'll play worse than that and win this season (in fact, we have already).

Negative: Isak looks crap (whether unfit or not) and despite him fluffing a few good chances we weren't set up to get the best out of him yet again and he toiled all day long. Like the Everton game I put it squarely at the board that we've gambled on his form and fitness for another season and only trusted the striking buy of the summer with mere minutes at the end of the game at best. Another great chance fluffed/missed/bottled (delete as appropriate) by Gordon as well who could have won us points if he was on it the last few weeks. Looking at Sean and Miggy coming on when we were desperate for some guile and a lock-picker was fucking depressing and it felt like we could still be there now and have drawn a blank.

Regardless: A word on the balding cunt wearing light blue. A disgrace from start to finish, giving a powderpuff diving Brighton team every single little decision. The Hall card was nothing short of outright incompetence as it wasn't even a foul, Rutter should have had one for diving (I was sat right in front of it). Seconds later, Rutter commits a worse foul up the other end, no card. What an utter fucking useless biased cunt & I hope he gets cock rot.

So yeah. Tough one to take, and to analyse. Beat Chelsea next time out and that's quickly forgotten. Brighton looked crap and if they're like that all season they won't pull up many trees.

We have a knackered Wilson a not sharp isak a poor finisher in gordon, and an undercooked osula because he won't use him great squad management eddie lad.

Thank god we gave him a new contract instead of cashing in. PSR though.

It’s disappointing but I’m not concerned. There’s issues that need addressing on and off the pitch and I’m sure it will in due course.

Due course won’t cut it though. The window is 2 1/2 months away and I’ve little faith in us doing much business to improve the first Xl. You know where we need to finish to hold on to our best players and I think we all know it’s going to take a minor miracle now. We needed a great start. Instead we’ve regressed - again.

It's getting to the point where Gordon 1 on 1 I just don't think he's going to score. No idea what's happened to him since last season, no idea if the stats back it up but he felt more clinical

Think most of his goal were prodding in crosses as he ran on to them at the back post, shooting from close range from a pass or whipping a curling low shot from the edge of the box. He’s always been crap running with the ball and shooting.

Right now, our season numbers have been bottom half. Struggling for top ten is a stretch, but that outcome is probably more likely than top four.

Was so frustrated with some.of our players refusing to shoot when in good postions and instead thinking they were playing tiki taka like prime Arsenal or Barca in front of goal.

Thought the first half was probably the best we’ve played this season.

Got more and more frustrating as it went on of course, and we continue to make some amateur mistakes and baffling decisions.

Didn’t really deserve to lose but couldn’t get it done.

League Cup game will be huge, if we’re to have a weak season (which is looking very likely) we must be winning a cup. Not sure how Howe stays otherwise, unless club are content with being a top 10 side and don’t need to push.

Bruno won't have gotten back to Newcastle until late Thursday. He'll have been running on petrol fumes.

He had more game time in the last international break and yet completed 87 minutes against Wolves

Our best players haven’t looked too great this season. Villa moved on their “best player” Grealish and never looked back. Maybe we need to come round to this idea as a fan base, unpalatable as it may seem.

I'm just really disappointed with how this season is going.

The problems of last season with the mass injuries and fixture pile-up haven’t been a factor. We've got Bruno, Tonali and Bruno fit and ready to go. Barnes, Isak, Gordon, the attacking full backs we all wanted. I hoped this could be a great, exciting season but aside from small spells here and there we've been poor.

You can make the argument that it was "just one of those games" but you lose that right when you have put together a string of largely uninspiring performances.

It’s not knee jerk but it’s going to take a big change to see the season changing much based on the trajectory so far.

It’s been a hard watch all season

Hmm, I get your point but we did play very well in the first half. Which is what everyone was waiting for. Just let in a soft goal and then the second half became very frustrating.

Said before this game that the next week or so had the potential to very grim. Get knocked out the cup by Chelsea and lose to Arsenal is very possible.

I expected 8th or thereabouts, everything so far has been 8th or thereabouts, its easy to predict but a lot harder to stomach the details of what that means - a lot of frustrating games and poor performances.  Season's dragging like f*ck.

Anyways...away from my attempts to bait a response. My largest concern for Newcastle at the moment is around our confidence. I think it's shot to be honest.

It has been since we got dropped out the Champions League. We've lost all swagger and faith in our ability both on and off the pitch. Like some form of dementor has sucked the soul out of us. Need a catalyst of sorts to get that back I think.

Really disappointed with this and the Everton result. The subs at the end was just pure desperation stuff.

1 point out of these two games isn't good enough and if this is what we're going to be like this year I feel it's going to be a bang average season and we will see huge changes in the club over the summer.
