They had a few where they didn't even get the shot away because they had awful control in the box. They were woeful in that regard but it's why the performance troubles me because on another day we concede a couple of goals in that match.

On another day we score 3 after half an hour. 4-5 in total if we had a better first touch or final pass. Works both ways. Sunday was the same. Close game and both teams wasteful at times. Aren’t a lot of games across football like this every week?!

Yes. It's my point really.

On another day we win the game on Sunday.

On another day we lose this one.

But if you take the prevailing mood Sundays performance was "awful" and this one was "really good".

I think there were good bits and bad bits about our performances in each of the games. But on balance I don't think today's was better, despite the results.

I just wish more people would think this way.  Thank you.

I don’t frequent other forums. But is it not just in football fans nature to often focus on the negatives when they lose and the positives when they win?

I wasn’t too down on Sunday. There were some promising signs. The midfield looked crap. The Big Joe/Little Joe cameo was a positive. We saw changes to the midfield setup and that left side tonight. So more than happy with that.

I certainly think tonight’s performance was better. The individual mistakes weren’t quite as glaring, even if they still could have been punished. We had more control of the game in different ways. Even though we had less possession and territory than Sunday. The caveat being that we were at home and against an entirely different XI.

Yep I thought they had a couple great chances and a few more where better quality would’ve seen a goal or a good opportunity.

We were dogged and determined as they were half arsed. But I don’t think that structure/setup is a strong one.

Don't get me wrong, there were plenty of positives to take as well!

This too.

The amount of money Chelsea have wasted is incredible

And without a repercussion to speak of.

Meanwhile if we spend ~£30-40m (i.e. a competitive price in today's market) on the wrong player, it can have serious side-effects.

I feel like that context doesn't get as much consideration as it should when critiquing our (admittedly imperfect) transfer business.

Yeah, I never understood the 'we were awful' narrative about Sunday. They had their chances today but still feel like we deserved to win this more than they deserved on Sunday although I'm hardly neutral.

Agree again here.

Overall the performances were similar. Today was better but not significantly so imo. A lot of the negatives remain from Sunday.  As are some of the positives.  And we had some bonus positives like Krafth, Kelly at Cb, Joes working well again, Tonali deepest and Osulu.

Can’t keep the ball for toffee and are easily played through mind.

Joan Felix is an industry plant and a tax right off.

He's fucking shite. Pathetic.

I thought he was good although should've done better on the big chance. His touch, ability to carry the ball and shooting are majestic. Certainly has been a wasted career so far but I still love to watch him play as a neutral.

How good is it celebrating a goal knowing there’s no VAR. really significantly makes me enjoy it more. Seemed like a good atmosphere, but was back of Gallowgate and couldn’t hear rest of ground. That’s more like it football wise too. Most I’ve enjoyed a game in a while

He looked the only one that could be bothered for them.
